Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

YEAAAH! Someone decided to run with the ball! Nice job Meredith! This is going to be lots of fun.

Are you doing this as an unofficial blog carnival? If there are people without blogs, can they pm you their ideas?

Just digging for the details !

My vote is for the 31st but really I'm game anytime.

Yay, Meredith!!! Thank you for doing this!

I agree with Rebecca about the 31st - that gives us TWO weekends to get things ready.

Neither works for me, but since I haven't reached that state of simple elegance, it doesn't really matter.

How about a before and after shot? I think people would be interested in seeing what you were working with before being inspired. Of course, it's easy to ask for before shots since I don't have a kitchen anymore.

Me neither, Jenn!    But the fact that my 90 year old Floridian grandmother is coming for a visit in 7 days, I have all the motivation needed!

Honestly though, I think the tour shouldn't be for those who have achieved simple elegance but for those who are striving for it.

Otherwise, I would not be a participant !

Oh sure, KC, way to suggest something that you yourself don't have to do!

Just think about that new kitchen you are building, you lucky girl you! I saw your blog photos and the building is coming along nicely.

I think the before and after could be really motivating around my house!

Oh my goodness, I went to the pool for an hour and look what happens

I love all the sugestions, and yes a blog entry is not necessary, I can adapt it within the body of my blog post (I think )

Jenn what would be a better date, if any for you, I want to be able to accomodate as many as are willing, and it could be in August, but it will have to be after the week of the 10th as I'll be camping with the W. Coast CMers!!

I'm off to the beach on the 29th for a week, so the next week or so is cleaning, laundering, shopping, packing...as I've never done this 1) married or 2) with a child, I'm a bit nervous. I could take the pics now before things fall apart.

Can we flesh out exactly what we're trying to do? Pictures of a clean kitchen, or a homey, simply elegant kitchen? Before and after shots? I guess I think I'm where I need to be, with some hotspot tweaking. Can we stick to one area of the house for now, and make this a carnival of such? Like the Tour of Kitchens. I was thinking let's set it up like someone was over for a cup of tea or coffee and take our pics.

For those without a blog, you could still have an account at Photobucket or Flickr and have links to your pictures...that would be another suggestion that Meredith could work in.

Jenn, I like this idea, and trust me no-one is going to see a full snapshot of MY kitchen as it is NOT Elegant    Keeping in mind I'm in a short term rental as well, but I know all you lovely ladies will dazzle the rest of us with your ideas!!

Shall we stick with kitchens for this go around and yes it will be exactly like a carinval, shall we call it the Carnival of Kitchens??

Oh and Jenn can you roll with the 31st even though you'll be out of town??

Ya'll let me know here!!

I'm in a one year rental and am currently waiting ANXIOUSLY for our next posting. Needless to say motivation for simply elegance is slim.

This will motivate me to finish starting my blog.

Yeah, what exactly ARE we doing.

Can this be some super simple elegant touch we've added to the house?

I think that's a good idea, Meredith! After all the kitchen is kind of the heart of the home isn't it?

I like the before and after idea. It sounds like a lot of us are using this tour as motivation to get a handle on our homes. I know I am! Of course even my before shot would have to be tweaked a bit before going public ...

I think this is a great idea and it opens it up to everyone on whatever level they are reaching for.

If you decide on just kitchens I'm out because we're working on other rooms right now and we won't be doing the kitchen for a while yet. Though I will still enjoy seeing everyone elses!

God bless!

Great question and I think I'm hearing that you all want to do the Kitchen only for this go round right??

This will be very simlar to Dawn's field day and the various "Carnivals" that you may (or may not) have seen already on other's blogs. for an example of a blog carnival please visit here for last week's Carnival of Home Schooling. It's basically a compilation of links to other's blogs or websites that has a "post" on home schooling. Ours will be a compiliation of posts (that may or may not include photographs, before and after shots, etc) of Simple Elegance in the Kitchen!! I hope this makes sense. Please ask again if it's not clear as we want everyone to feel like they can participate even if you don't have a blog. Pictures are like a thousand words!!

Michele, perhaps you could lend some insight on what you'd like to accomplish in your kitchen??? Just a thought.

Well, my entire kitchen needs to be redone. It's old and the cabinets are falling apart. The plaster is coming off the walls and the floor needs replaced. It was this way when we bought the house and our plans are to re-do sometime in the next few years. Dh has been doing carpentry work the last year and gaining experience with kitchens and my 20 yr. old ds is currently in school learning cabinet making. So it's promising...but it's a little ways off and I haven't spent the time yet figuring exactly HOW I want it done. Add to that my kitchen is two rooms apart from my dining room (with the den in between) and except for a tiny peninsula counter top with enough room for 2 stools, it is not large enough to be an eat-in kitchen (which I like if only that it be big enough for a table that the little ones can sit at for breakfast). Originally the house would not have been this way but at some point a 2nd bath was added on to the dining room making it too tiny to contine as a dining room (but big enough for a den) and the middle room (don't know what that would have been - living room I guess) had to become the dining room while the front parlor is now our living room (confused yet?).

We have been toying with the idea of moving the kitchen to the den area but it would require some serious renovation and we can't afford to lose the second bath as the upstairs bath only has a large claw foot tub but no shower. The kitchen has stairs to the second floor that we don't use (well we use it as a pantry, we just don't use it as back stairs) and on the other side there are stairs to the basement. Which could be moved but again would be a very big job. So for now I live with the kitchen the way it is and wait for the time it can change.

God bless,
