I don't even know if I should show my face in this thread. I hate exercising. I don't stick to many programs. I just recently picked up a book by Denise Austin Shrink Your Female Fat Zones: Lose Pounds and Inches--Fast!-- and I'm very excited at the simple step-by-step instructions and various routines all mapped out for me. It's aimed at women our age .

There is also a DVD if it's easier than following a book (which I don't have yet). I use a treadmill, exercise mat and dumbbells so far. I'm looking for an aerobic step for the 10 routine when you have no time.

The treadmill is the only thing that I can stick to. I don't have someone to watch my son while I go for a walk, and walking with him is not aerobic (he's a toddler, but doesn't want to be pushed!). So I can convince myself that I can find 25 minutes to walk on the treadmill, and she has some exercises to do while walking. Her routines include both treadmill and outside walking suggestions.

She also has diet suggestions. it's a 6 week, all over plan, simple, incorporating Pilates moves which I love and walking, which is about all I can do.

Our treadmill we bought for Christmas as a gift for both of us. It doesn't hide away, but it does fold up and stay out of the way.

Hey, Jenn - I like that Denise Austin book. I also have her DVD - it is the spot toning/resistance training workouts on the DVD - one with a stability ball.

I love stability balls - make me feel like a kid again, playing with the ball.


Right now I am having fun dancing and kickboxing with Turbo Jam - you forget you are working out cos you are grooving to the music!

Well, this is not exercise equipment per se - but I count my workout DVDs as workout equipment.

Michelle, I have one I DON'T use!!......but not because it is not usable, something to do with me, I'm afraid.

I bought the Exercise Stepper the other day at a garage sale for $15 and I came home with it and my dh just shook his head! (knows me too well)

The good thing about it, it's small and compact, just been pushed under one of my bookcases in the lounge where we school, so in THEORY it is suppose to be quite easy for me to use!

Plain ole' walking is suppose to be all we really need to do in abundance for good health and fitness and many have those pedometres (think thats the word) for counting your steps in a day - they are all the rage here in Australia, 6000 steps are needed for good health, I believe.......... .............I think I would get a fright to find out how many I really do!

The President's Challange has the recommendations set at:
Girls 6 to 17 - At least 11,000 steps a day
Boys 6 to 17 - At least 13,000 steps a day
Adults 18 or older - At least 8,500 steps a day

I like this site as it is adaptable for many ages, so my daughter and I can both see guidelines...

I use my proform elliptical machine. I try to do 20 minutes every other day. It is a high calorie burning workout that is invigorating. I must say that I like the fact that the back of the machine folds up so I can tuck the machine into a corner and pull out it into the room when I use it.

I also have the Denise Austin Dvd - Shrink Your Female Fat Zones. It is very good. I love the fact that she chats with you instead of counting when you are doing the DVD. I use that on my off days of the elliptical. I have just started getting back into my routine as I need to lose 15 baby pounds.

Jenn, are instructions for using the dumbbells also in the video? I've had dumbbells in the house forever (hubby used to strength-train before we got married) but I've always been scared to use them -- might hurt myself -- and even when we were Y members I was petrified of asking anyone for help .

I'm not Jenn but the DVD does use dumbells as well as a stability ball. Denise uses light weights and gives tips...HTH!

I want to be more gentle when I grow up - I get overly enthusiastic!

I think TJ is different is beacuse it is fun - you don't feel like you are working out. Now, I like my workouts but admit to there sometimes being a dread factor - with TJ there is no dread. You are dancing and kicking and punching away to the music.
