Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just had to share this with people who might understand. we just took a month off while my folks visited, so I've been trying to get back on track with dedicated desk time. but this week I was horrified to hear myself tell the kids "hurry up and put those library books back! we have to get home to do school!"

fortunately I "heard" myself in time. I sat back down and looked over the wide range of books they had picked out on their own, and realized DS hadn't been able to find one on geocaching which he and DH recently discovered. when I asked the librarian for help we found out there is an actual geocache IN THE LIBRARY! while waiting for the app to download on my phone we took a nice long walk to the beach (exercise), discussed erosion while throwing rocks in the waves (science) and found a gorgeous crab shell with an amazing range of colors (more science plus nature study). and since it was Ash Wednesday we talked over the start of Lent and the evening's service in a less formal (but probably more helpful for DD) manner.

and if that wasn't enough reward, the geocache contained a Travel Bug in it (pretty rare, and we found it in only our third geocache!) that had traveled 17,000+ miles, from Germany through Europe, Africa, Mexico and California before ending up on our island. instant geography lesson! not to mention a humbled mom who will never try to limit library time again!

may your days be filled with unexpected delights in addition to dedicated desk time!
