Hi everyone!

I am 10 weeks tomorrow and I am ending the life cycle of most of my summer clothes...well, my shirts are fine for a month or more, but the bottoms, well they are getting snug and my nauseated self can't stand having anything binding my tummy right now. I haven't really bought much new in the way of summer clothes in recent years and now that I'm pregnant and my belly is getting poochier, well, I'm down to 2 pairs of capris, a pair of longish shorts and a casual skirt...that's it...

When do you throw it all in and pull out the maternity clothes?

And where are you buying a few new things to spruce up your preggy clothes? I have a decent selection of summer maternity clothes from two years ago (baby Joseph and this baby I'm carrying are both Jan. babies!) but I am really wanting more skirts this time and less capris/shorts...I also had a terrible time last pregnancy finding capris that would stay on--everything slipped down and it was terrible---nothing more attractive than a pregnant woman hiking up her pants constantly (and it's not possible to do this discreetly!).

I found a few links from the archives about maternity clothes:

Help? Please?

Why wait on getting out the maternity clothes.. you're wearing them for YOU not everyone else

Basically I get things out for my comfort.. though there are a couple things I tend to not wear until the later months.. because I have fewer things at that end as well so having them be "new" helps when there's only a few.

I don't tend to get maternity clothes.. they fit me all wrong.. bind where I need loose.. loose where I want some support.. I've found some nice things at woman within (online plus sized store) that work great for me.. they have a denim capri that I'm wearing right now.. I elastic waist.. but loose enough that they work for me while pregnant.. even 38 weeks pregnant.

And they have some baby doll style tops or trapeze tops that work very nicely for maternity.

Oh they have a maternity section but the things I was mentioning were from their regular selection.

In the past I've also had some jumpers made by an online store.. with pleats and raised waist that work very well.

With my most recent baby (#4), I started to show earlier than with all the others. I held off as long as I could, but had to switch to maternity clothes by 16 weeks. One thing that helped me was using a hairband and looping it around the button of my pants, through the hole and back over the button. It was a relief, though, once I did put on the comfy maternity clothes.

I was fortunate to receive maternity clothes, second hand, from family. And some I got from a consignment shop. I did buy some new stuff from Motherhood Maternity at our local mall.

Good luck, Jennifer - it ain't pretty out there . Everything is either tight, low cut or tight and low-cut.    I don't know whose pregnant body looks good in that kind of stuff, but it sure isn't mine!!!!

You'll have your best luck in a good consignment shop, on ebay, or just shopping a size up.

I break out preggy clothes quickly because like you, I can't stand to have anything touch my waist when I'm so sick - I don't know why it's like that though. You might have some good luck finding some pretty summer dresses or jumpers that are non-binding and would be pretty enough to get you through the hottest part of the summer before you get really big.

Good luck shopping, and don't feel bad about putting preggy clothes on now!

Jennifer,

I am just shy of 6 weeks, and I cannot stand things around my middle either. I always start to show super early, here is a pic of me from when I was just 9 weeks along with Mark:

So I bust out the maternity clothes pretty early.

When I was pregnant last time, I found some great skirts and dresses on Ebay and a local consignment shop. Motherhood was out because, like Jennifer said, it is all too revealing. I have also found some decent items at Goodwill.

When do I wear them? When I can't get away with anything else anymore! The nice part about some of the new maternity clothes, is that the panels are not just in the front anymore. They are all the way around and make it much easier to transition to maternity tops when it is time, because I seem to need maternity tops later than bottoms.

I am especially fond of this new Secret Fit Belly panel. It is very comfortable!
I also liked this mid belly panel while I was in that "in-between" period - too big for the rubber band on my pants, and too small for regular panel maternity jeans. I think they will be great after the baby is born as well. I could still wear my regular shirts and there was no belly panel sticking out.

Thanks, ladies for the tips and encouragement....Lisa, that picture of you is precious!

Off to swim lessons--nothing like nausea and chasing toddlers in the Texas heat!

Just an FYI: Ann Taylor Loft Maternity has 25% of all maternity (including what is already on clearance) for the month of June. You enter JUNEMOM (I think, its on the website) at checkout. I got four nice tops for around $80 including shipping. I think that most places had one or two blouses I liked, weren't *too* low, and had some sort of sleeve (my checklist), but over all, it was pretty discouraging to look

I also just got some new extra long nursing camisoles/tanks from Target. Unlike my other camis which were riding up, these stayed in place and the neck is straight across and high enough to make the tops I bought modest (they are those style button ups where it crosses at the top instead of having buttons all the way--this way, even when they gape, I'm covered), and they are long enough to cover the belly band or open zipper on my skirts so I can wear some non maternity skirts and shirts.

I have a layering band which works well, but I like it being all one under layer in the cami for coolness and less bunching. The layering bands are really great, though, for extending the life of non-maternity clothes. I am 25 weeks, and I only pulled out the maternity stuff in the past month.

I didn't have any luck finding modest length summer skirts or dresses. The only thing were some of the 2 in1 or 4 in 1 which were supposedly smocked strapless dresses OR a skirt (I would never wear it as a dress), but they were pricey.

You aren't alone...
I just realized that a heavy wt corduroy jumper is NOT gonna cut it for the summer and it is the only maternity item I own right now.

Sigh! I really want to feel put together well even if I am melting underneath. I am due in October and if this is any indication of how HOT things will be this summer...

I need ideas for keeping cool and looking decent for church etc...

Thanks for the links!
God love you!
