Happy New Year!
Some of our plans are still in the forming stage.
We have always made lasagna and ice cream sudaes on New Years Eve. This year we will do the same, with two lasagnas one full of meat and one vegetarian.
We might do some visiting with friends.
We also spend the evening playing games and watching movies. I have saved some bubble wrap for popping at 12 and we have lots of sparkling cider.
Now I'm off to shop!

Get to bed.
We have been running around for about 2 months. Two funerals in 6 weeks with much travel. The holidays and somewhat stressful house guests for a week. I am just looking forward to being alone and having some peace and quiet. Tomorrow friends are coming for the day so the kids can play. Whoo whoo we are just the party animals here

No special plans except hanging out with kids and our ds 15 who is coming in today.
Tomorrow is when the fun begins for me and dh. We are going to the Capital One bowl game with my sister and brother-in-law. It is is Orlando and our Michigan Wolverines are playing in it. I am so excited!!!

Oooohhhh... we NORMALLY are in CT where my Mom has a New Year's Eve party at 5:30 pm complete with hors d'oeuvres, desserts, hats, balloons netted in the ceiling, and noisemakers. At 7:30 pm, a clock is set for 11:45 pm and when it reaches Midnight the balloons are released, we make a lot of noise, bat balloons, and throw streamers for exactly one minute. Then we sing Auld Lang Syne and collect the noisemakers.
My cousins and I have been doing this since we've been kids. (It started with my Grandma). And now our kids get to join on the fun. 
But... this year I've been hoping to be in a hospital with hard labor pains... but since there's no indication of that happening...  I'm trying to think about what we're going to do now!! This post will help.

It has just turned over to the New Year 5 minutes ago - I woke up 2 minutes before it happened and just had quiet time of prayer, to consecrate each member of my family to Our Lady and this New Year to her. There is alot of firecrackers going off around our area and squealing of car tyres ...The weather is very windy and rainy due to the threat of a developing cyclone up higher north.
Many, many blessings to you all my dear friends, for this New Year, saying three Hail Mary's for all your New Year's intentions as I head off to bed again, like a good, heavily pregnant mum should!

Lots of hors d'oeurves and hanging out together - although we may stop over at a former neighbor's for a bit. Noise, noise at midnight!
For us, it's our anniversary, so the day is extra special! We'll go to noon mass at the church where we were married then out to lunch to celebrate (hopefully - dh started a cold last night, he may not be up for it all). Then we spend the rest of the day at home with the children.

We had no plans. Hadn't even discussed it in fact. Until the older ones mentioned some friends might come by (since mine know that I prefer them not to be out on New Year's eve night...too many drunk drivers, ya know)and could we at least have a fire.
So dh volunteered to make a gumbo and a bonfire. I think we might still have some fireworks in the closet from July 4th.
It'll be relatively low-key though.

Ok, now I'll post what I'm going to make.
I'm going to make bacon-wrapped water chestnuts.
Not two days ago, did Steve tell me about these and how much he loved them growing up! Then, I'm putzing around on some blogs this am and I find the recipe - he'll be suprised and happy - as in Happy New Year!

A quiet day today. It's snowing and Bill's working from home, so that's nice. 
Tonight we'll have a special dinner: leftover crabbies from Christmas (they freeze beautifully), lobster and butternut squash ravioli, garlic bread and steamed broccoli. Ginger ale "cocktails" and ice cream sundaes for dessert. YUM!
The boys will be allowed to stay up till probably 9 or so. I think we might watch The Sound of Music. At nine, we'll toast the new year (ginger ale again!) and send them off to bed with blessings and kisses. 
I'd love to stay up to watch the countdown, but that's probably not going to happen. Not with a 4 a.m. riser in the house!

Me too!
Barring that, though, it will probably just be TV and the kids trying to stay up as late as possible, but most of us dropping off by 10:30 or 11.

My 16 year old is hosting a party for about a dozen friends so we'll be supervising and hanging out. Lots of food and Martinelli's sparkling cider.
When Dawn mentioned letting the kids stay up til 9 PM it got me thinking. How many of you stay up until midnight - kids included? As a kid I only remember staying up - though I know when I was pretty young I probably didn't. My own kids have always been permitted to stay up if they can - when they were really young (baby and toddler) they usually konked out before then. But most do end us staying up til midnight. They have no trouble with late nights. I've successfully passed on the night owl gene.

We will probably just read aloud together after dinner, like usual. DH is sick....
The one thing we always do that's special for New Year is pick a patron saint for the year. We put all the names (approx 100) in a bowl, say a prayer and draw a saint. That's the saint to pray to and "get to know" for the year.
Tomorrow at Mass, we'll consecrate the year to Our Lady.

Lol, Mary, if I could I would love to stay up till midnight (kids, too  ) but since both Bill and I konk out by 10-11 at the latest, we figure it's best to get the boys safely off to bed before that happens and they're left to fend for themselves.
I remember staying up when I was a girl. My brother and I usually stayed overnight at our grandparents while my folks went to a party with friends. I remember drinking dixie cups of ginger ale and falling asleep in the living room.

We have a bunch of finger-foods (you know, the totally terrible for you stuff! ) and watch a movie until midnight. Hannah will be in bed at the normal time but Josh and Jake will stay up. Dh and I really try to stay awake the whole time...doesn't usually happen though .

Well, the 3 bigger kids are in the kitchen cooking up a feast (Greek chicken, it sounds like) and they went and got some sparkling grape juice for toasting. The 3 littles are running around like maniacs outside in this gorgeous unseasonable weather.
I am wishing dh was here for a midnight smooch, but aside from that I am kicking back and enjoying the day (and night) with my wonderful kiddos.

We have a couple of movies to watch...some homemade minestrone soup (the accompanying bread is in the oven, yum), Hersey's Kisses bought on sale today (Target, 69 cents!), I guess I should ask dh about sparkly beverages. I did errands all day (mostly shopping for La Befana on 1/6, we give our children a gift on that day, and year-end business banking). Now I am catching up on business paperwork so I can relax tonight with the family.
(Movies: The Princess Bride and the last Pirates of the Caribbean film)
We always miss being in Italy for New Years, as they really do up this evening with a bang. Literally. It's mega-fireworks night there. Eating Italian food is a little bit of nostalgia...

We usually have lots of finger foods and let the big kids stay up until midnight. The little ones try, but usually they can't make it. Since we are all sick this year, I'm not sure how it will go. The big kids feel well enough to stay up, but I am afraid what the house will look like in the morning if dh and I don't stay up too!!!
