KellyJ mentioned using a glue gun for her card ornaments.
Glue guns intimidate me -- at least all the choices. And having a little one around who is VERY curious. The words "don't touch" do not seem to register. 
Can you hold my hand and help me pick out a good one? Pointers? I know there are different temp types? What works for you? What do you use it for? How often do you use it?

Jenn, your question is perfectly timed! I need glue gun help, too. I am using one this very moment (actually it's now cooling) and nursing a small burn on my left index finger!  I just switched from a low temp. gun to a high temp. one thinking it would be better for crafts, but now I'm not sure it is necessary. The one I bought is by a company called Nicole - it was only a few dollars at the craft store.

I use a small, low temp one. It takes a few minutes to warm up. There is no indicator light whatsoever.
I saw at Michaels that there are glitter and other colored glue sticks available! My current stash of glue sticks is from the dollar store; they're clear. I've even seen low temp glue guns from there. I don't remember where I bought mine.
I wouldn't let a little one with the glue gun; it gets pretty hot even with the low temp (our glue seems to get hotter than the tip on the gun though).

We have one but only use it if Mom, big sis or big bro can do the actual gluing. Otherwise it's on a drawer kept away from little hands.

I love my hot glue gun! I don't know how long I could craft without one.  I used to use a large high temp model, but switched to a low temp when the kids were old enough to use it. We now only use the high temp for sealing wax sticks.

Glue guns are the greatest thing since sliced bread, and they can be picked up inexpensively at any craft store. Jenn, if you are a bit nervous about it (and I do not blame you with such a young boy in the house), maybe you should start with a low temperature. You will be amazed at how handy it is. I usually use mine when the little ones are not around.

I miss my glue gun! I had the neatest small gun, I liked it ever so much better than the big heavy ones. They just seemed to unwieldly to me.

I also only use my glue gun when the littlest is not around, but unfortunately, he decided *not* to nap yesterday ... so I was trying to get my poinsettia fairy made when he wasn't looking (right, my kids can "smell" crafting a mile away ) ... and in my rush to put the glue gun out of reach as he approached, I burned the tip of my finger. It smarted, but left hardly any damage.
Is there much difference between hot and low temp guns - do you find you need a hot glue gun for certain types of crafts?

I think the hot glue holds better than the low temp, but, for my purposes, low temp is just fine. The low temp is still hot, just not as extremely burny as the high temp.

I use a low temp gun and have been burned badly enough with it that I can't even imagine safely switching to a hot temp gun! It is a cheap little gun, but has served me well for years. I treat my glue gun like I treat my iron -- I use it away from little hands, and put it high out of reach while cooling (top of refridgerator or in a high cabinet) and out of sight between uses.
