Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What are your favorite gardening books or magazines?
I am ready to hole up in my room and plan, plan, plan.

I don't have much in the way of books. I do use the internet though. There's free info out there on companion planting and square foot gardening and I like to go to the heirloom seeds websites and find the shorter season items (we have a short growing season and tend to be cooler too). So I don't want varieties that are good for high heat. But frost hearty and grow fast ones

I should preface this by saying that I'm the worst gardener in the world.

But I like the square foot gardening books for practical veggie stuff, and just about anything by Sharon Lovejoy for beautiful inspiration (she has practical directions, too).

I got Birds and Blooms magazine for a while, and enjoyed it.

If you are the worst gardener, I guess I will claim second worst. My gardens still seem to be a bit of an experiment.

My main books I use for getting the beds prepared and a layout are Square Foot Gardening and Lasagne Gardening. It is not a book (wish it was because I do better with the written word and diagrams) is the site and film Back to Eden. I know We have referenced a site here that has great layouts for planting the square foot way.

For enjoyable reading I do like to read books by Ruth Stout, which are older but delightful. She calls herself the lazy Gardener. I usually love anything printed by Storey Press and older Rodale books.

The one area I really love and want to concentrate much more this year is herbs, but that is a separate category in itself. And my list is long for that.

If you scroll through This older thread, there are many links to favorite books and blogs. The first two and last two pages have the most, while the middle gets more chstty

I hope to eventually compile a list for our Garden sticky thread, but that is a good place to browse.

I really like Square Foot Gardening, Taunton's Complete Guide to Growing Vegetables and Herbs, the Vegetable Gardener's Bible, and I liked The Elements of Gardening Design a lot when I was first planning and will revisit it to make plans for new garden areas.
