Any recommendations for a kitchen garbage or trash can? A few years ago I splurged and purchased this simplehuman 13 gallon can at 1/4 this price, off of a scratch-and-dent shelf at Linen-n-Things. It has been great!

What I love:

hands free
wide open top
quiet auto shut lid
seals out smell

I don't like:

stainless steel...but I live with it.

I'm not feeling lucky about finding another great deal like this one, and am not willing to pay a small fortune for a garbage can . Anyone have a suggestion?

Love,

I have no recommendation but this is an interesting topic. My garbage can is currently sitting in the garage with bleach water in it. It really needs to be replaced I guess. It's just your run of the mill, el cheapo white plastic garbage can. It's not been a problem because I've always been able to hide it under the kitchen sink cabinet. But now that my DH installed a new disposal it doesn't fit. I'm realizing just how ugly it really is.
So, I hope you get some good ideas here. I could use some as well!

No suggestions here, except finding a convenient place to hide the can. Our garbage container resides in our broom closet...it basically has a room of its own! Everything else in the broom closet is stored on pegboard, leaving plenty of floor space for our kitchen can. After years of wrestling with lids on cheaply made containers, we are quite happy to have the option to keep ours uncovered...we seem to have less of an issue with smells without a lid than when we had covered containers. Every once in awhile we spray and clean the inside with Lysol cleaner....on occasion we spray inside the bag liner, especially when contents are particularly smelly. We always wrap tuna cans or other distinctively odorific offerings in used plastic grocery bags, to keep the entire broom closet from developing putrid aromas. I was actually standing in the housewares aisle recently, dreamily contemplating the purchase of a lovely platinum-colored can, which I think touted itself as being anti-bacterial...quickly yanking myself back to reality, I realized it made absolutely no sense to purchase a new can when ours is still perfectly sufficient and lives happily sequestered behind closed doors. Good luck in your quest!

I have that same one! I purchased it 6 months ago and am very happy with it. I used a 20% off coupong at Bed Bath and Beyond and a gift card to help ease the cost.

Good luck finding a replacement!

What a timely post! I am looking for a new garbage can as well. Ours is not big enough!

I'm afraid I'm not much help.. I just can't take on a battle over playing with trash can lids... so I don't have one.. The trash goes out frequently which takes care of smells and it stands in some corner of the kitchen or other..

I ended up getting this garbage can on sale at Walmart. So far, so good.

Love,
