We are having engineered hardwood floors put in and I want to know what you ladies use to clean yours. A friend of mine uses a vacuum like thing for hardwood floors made by Bissell I think. What do you use?

We had hardwoods put in last year. I use my oreck (hard floor setting) and then I mop with Bona X wood floor cleaner. I love the floors but don't love the dust bunnies that are much more visible!

I just sweep mine. I use a dustbuster along the baseboards to get up the dust and crud that inevitably collects along the sides of any room or hall. You can also use a soft dustmop to pick up finer dirt.
Ours are older floors (late 50s/early 60s), not engineered newer ones, and to get real grime off when I need to, I mop with Murphy's Oil Soap. Not sure that that's good for all floors, and I don't know much about the newer varieties. We have also used OrangeGlo cleaner, which worked well.

the type of finish will make a big difference.. we had ours refinished and were told to NOT use the murphy's oil soaps (the residue from the oils on the finish is bad) but just to use water and if a cleaner is needed something gentle and easy to rinse.. like just a bit of dawn dish soap.. is the best to use.

I was thinking more about the daily dust bunnies rather than serious scrubbing or polishing. I have a SwifferVac but I am not that thrilled with it. I guess I was thinking about what I would use that is like a vacuum for wood floors.

There's one I've heard of with a name of something like a "shark" it's wet and dry I think..
Big big help.. have mats outside all the doors and rugs inside the doors.. that will cut way done on the dirt you chase around.
And I just keep reminding myself.. everything you see on the floor would be hiding IN the carpet if you had that.. and a quick mop is sure easier than cleaning carpet

I use a number of different things:-)
We have a roomba, that if we're not going to be in an area for a while I will set (or Puggle will).
Puggle uses the dustbuster under the dining table after breakfast (and dinner on occasion, if we've had couscous for example:-) )
Otherwise, I use Enjo. I have the dust mop which I use (less frequently than would be ideal:-( ) and a washing mop.

Kid power! After meals I have the floors swept and then I get a couple rags soapy wet, throw them on the floor and let the children wipe. I will do a total mop on Mondays, so they just help with the daily maintenance. I figure 80% clean is better than 0%.
