Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We will be spending one year in America beginning June 30, and now, many questions are arising , as to how I shall manage our day to day life...humor me please!!!!

This morning as I was preparing my Dallmayr's Decaf through a hand filter I began wondering, what kind of coffee will I buy in America??? I am not on vacation, so I can't afford some gourmet coffee for a whole year...What are my options?
Any decaf drinkers out there??? What is your favorite brand and what does it cost ?

Hi Stephanie!

I'm a Foldgers girl, but I need the caffiene!! I'm pretty sure they do make a decaf version, but I'm not positive. And to be honest, I'm not sure of the price, because I've just switched to the can from getting the whole beans from the grocery store (which can run $6-8)

God bless as you make your way over here!

I like many of the coffees sold by Trader Joe's. Their coffees generally run $6-8/can. They aren't everywhere, though. For supermarket brands I like Eight O'clock coffee. I'm usually disappointed by "gourmet" coffees, here. We have a local coffee shop that really does sell beans worth paying $10/pound for but we can't afford that for everyday.

I am a decaf drinker. I like Trader Joe's Colombian (around $7.00), Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf's House Blend ($8.99 at Target, $12.99 in the CB & TL stores--available on the west coast, I don't know about other regions), and Don Francisco Colombian (about $5.00). No offense to those that like it, but I really dislike Folger's, MJB, Yuban, etc. I can drink it, but only with a LOT of half & half in it!

Tim Horton's all the way! Although I have no experience with their decaf...

And yes, I am Canadian. I'm not sure, can you even get Tim Horton's in the US?

Decaf here too. I drink Trader Joe's Decaf French Roast (about $7 a pound)--it's good but not wonderful. My parents are Starbuck's lovers, and I actually really like Starbuck's too, but TJ's is much cheaper.

Thanks for the recommendations!

I suppose you can't find all of these brands at costco?
You see, I haven't lived in the US for 18 years, and then , without children. I am beginning to get a bit anxious about the most ridiculous things...
I will just have to take one day at a time, and one decaf brand at a time

Here near Seattle, we take an awful lot of pride in our coffee. . Our Costco has several brands that I like, especially Starbucks and Seattle's Best Coffee. Either of those decaf blends are lovely. Folgers does sell a decaf blend- I get it when I'm in a pinch, but the other brands are yummier. Don't worry too much-- decaf is pretty easy to locate at any grocery store. Where in America will you be?

There's no Trader Joe's anywhere close to where you'll be living Stephanie, but your Costco will be well stocked with decaf.

Now, what else is keeping you awake at night?

We will be in south Florida. Dh will not be able to stay with us. He will return to Germany a month later and then come over in the fall, at Christmas and Easter for 2 weeks each time. We can get direct flights between Düsseldorf and Miami.
I heard there is a store called Whole Foods nearby. This might be a good possibility for some products? I don't know if it is a discount store. Just down the street is a Publix, but I know that will be more expensive. Mom is working on getting me a costco card. Without dh our amount of necessary food will be less than usual, so I don't know if Costco is right for us.

What else is on my mind???
1. School.
but that is a whole other thread.
2. What do I want to do for myself during that year in America?
   a. learn to start and run an Atrium CGS
   b. learn more apologetics especially in the area of Marraige and Family to be able to defend the Church's teachings better. Germany really needs help!
3. If I will find like-minded in my new parish?
4. Will our local library have all those books I have been waiting to read?????

I know that not all are ridiculous, and I haven't had my decaf yet this morning...

Thanks for asking.. I will start another School thread some time I'm sure.

It's pretty much the opposite of a discount store. - very high end natural foods. I can't afford to shop there much though I do by some bulk products and supplements.
