This may seem kinda silly, but we have a quilt that is retired as of today. My husband bought it for me when we were first married, (14 years ago!) and it is the softest, prettiest, sweetest smelling, most comfortable thing in the whole world. It's been slowely falling apart over the past year to the point of it shredding everytime we pull it up over ourselves. Neither one of us want to let it go, but it's just done for.  For St. Valentines Day he bought a beatiful, plush new blanket for out bed (new sheets with 500 thread count and a fancy dancy mattress pad too!) He said it's time for the old quilt to go.
Is it too sentimental for me to want to do something with it as a keepsake? Anyone have any ideas? I was kinda thinking a stuffed bear, a pillow, or something like that. I know I can't salvage all of it, but I should be able to come up with enough for little 'lovey' out of it. We spent a good part of our morning all snuggled up in it one last time.
It's so funny, none of the kids have blankies or lovies, but mom and dad do.

You could always make a framed wall hanging, or your ideas about a bear or a lovey are great too. I don't think it is too sentimental at all! How sweet!

You could also cover it with another material -- a soft flannel or fleece -- and then you'd still be able to use it. We've done this with the kids' binkies -- which makes it nice as my 9yos didn't need the cutsie baby blanket, but when it was covered with Batman, welllllll  !
Also, I like the idea of framing a portion of it as a keepsake -- get a shadow box frame and mount a piece.
What a wonderful husband to be so aware of the little things!

If you can sew at all you could use it as the "batting" for a new quilt. You don't have to make the outside fancy--just make sure to do enough quilting to hold the insides in place.

I think framing it is a great idea. You could frame part of it and make a pillow or something out of the rest. That is so neat, I love quilts!

How about making throw pillows for your bed and one for each of the kids' beds? If there is any left over, frame a piece. What wonderful heirlooms to pass on!

The wall hanging is a good idea.You don't even have to frame it.Just hang it as a kind of a tapestry.
