Does anyone have a secret source?

I have no Whole Foods close by no Trader Joe's

My grocery store (Harris Teeter) carries only the Holy Cow String Cheese (which dd won't eat).

I have one small organic food store in town, but the cheese is limited and seriously, outrageously expensive.

Any ideas?

I don't know what you have close to you, but our Martin's (Giant) carries organic cheese -- Horizon and Organic Valley.

Our co-op carries this cheese and butter. I see online ordering. They aren't certified organic and they explain why on the site. I'm going to call and ask about whether the cows are grain fed or pastured. I'll let you know.

Thanks for the link. I wonder why I can buy organic milk and yogurt in every grocery store but the cheese is so hard to find?

Don't know but my whole family just watched a fascinating documentary of a family who milks water buffalo (is it?...some kind of buffalo), goats, yaks, and cows and turns the milk into all kinds of cheese.

They let their animals feed off blackberry bushes so that when they unpackage the cheese urn it smells like fruit!

Had to have been on the Food Channel because that's all we watch around here.

I've found the organic cheeses to be really expensive! I have just cut back on a lot of the cheese, and I am trying to use yogurt cheese in some of my recipes instead.

Having said that...there's just no substitute for a good Mozarella on a lasagna is there?

I try to console myself by thinking that we don't eat that much cheese... but I do like to make a pizza now and then. Maybe the price will come down as more organic products are available.
