Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My daughter, Cate's ministry has grown to a point where we feel we need some volunteers. I set up a preliminary website today. It is rudimentary, but we will be updating and upgrading it shortly. The address is: http://catiedidkids.blogspot.com . Cate has been knitting little caps for babes for 4 years (she's 15 now). We have the caps blessed by a priest and we deliver them at Christmas time. As far as I know, we are the only such ministry that is specifically Catholic in our area.

You may use the Threads of Love patterns (they are available for free online). We do have several other specifications which we would ask volunteers to follow before sending your items to us.

1. please use only natural fibres. Cotton and bamboo are ideal for caps. Cotton batiste is ideal for gowns - it's a bit more costly than some fabrics, but you can get more gowns and buntings from fewer yards.

2. please trim gowns and burial buntings with soft cotton or silk ribbons

3. pretty embroidery is always welcome!

4. please use silk embroidery ribbon to trim eyelet-style hats

5. feel free to send both white (for Christening or burial) and coloured gowns, but only pink, white or blue buntings.

6. please do not use yellow at all. it makes the babies look jaundiced.

7. please pre-wash in mild detergent before sending and avoid heavily perfumed detergents or softeners.

You can send your finished garments to:

Catie-Did Kids
PO Box 310
Charlton, MA 01507

We also welcome stuffies made with natural fibres (either knitted, crocheted, or sewn). Please be sure to embroider features for safety! And we sure don't mind if you put a green scapular inside! ;-)

*** We do not use wool because these babes have very sensitive senses and immune systems. We prefer cotton and bamboo.

You can email me offlist for more information. I also have some piecework available, if anyone is interested.

Blessings,
