Have any of you ladies successfully sewn up slits in your skirts, with the skirt still looking good and not having it too narrow?
I am toying with several ideas, other than just sewing the slit totally shut... just wondering if anyone else has ideas??????
With some skirts I am afraid I will only be able to take small steps if I just sew it shut(and I have very long legs)! I thought I could maybe sew in a stretchy panel of material of the same color. I bought navy blue material, like what you find for the tummy area of maternity clothes, and will try it on my navy canvas (Eddie Bauer) skirt.
Has anyone done something like this before?

How about adding a godet? That is a small, triangular piece that gives width. I've seen them in the backs of skirts alone, or in several seams all around. The cutest was a jeans skirt with a godet in the back that was a little longer in the center (didn't touch the ground) and was really attractive. Good luck! I have 2 pairs of jeans I'm going to re-fashion and am considering godets to make the skirt wide enough.

You are the only person I have ever *heard* use the word "godet"! I learned it from an especially maddening skirt pattern. I agree that it would be the solution for Stephanie's problem with the slit. It's just making me laugh because that pattern was so weird that it became a sort of joke at our house.

I still can't forget the vision of Cay trying to jump a puddle in a skirt and having it actually rip, but NOT in the slit I didn't know anyone else ever used the term "godet" either, sounds like a great option!!

   I never did take a slit out of a skirt, but my mother did before she let me out of the house in the prom dress we purchased for my junior prom. I don't know the term godet, but my mother sewed in a triangular piece of fabric to make the bottom. Same thing, I suppose.

I was going to suggest a godet as well. They're fabulous when inserted into a slit - makes your skirt look very Edwardian in flavor.
