Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

An internet friend sent me a list of one month's OAMC cooking plans. And I am intrigued.

Anybody else do OAMC? Any cooking tips or menus to share?

I did it 3 kids ago . As my family grew, I found it too cumbersome to cook in such huge quantities. We also grew weary of the same foods from the freezer. it was a great thing for several months after having a baby, though.

I have done it in the past. I really enjoyed being able to pull something out of the freezer and not stress much about dinner. I just do not have a weekend to devote to all that cooking.
I try to do things like marinate steaks and chicken before putting them in the freezer. Sometimes I will cook up a bunch of chicken or ground beef and freeze it in 2 cup amounts. When I make enchiladas or meatballs I double the recipe and freeze some.

I have never done the whole thing. But I have used some of the recipes from Frozen Assets. I have done especially breakfast things: the breakfast burritos, the pancake/waffle mix. I also like to cook ground beef to have ready to use in different recipes.
I don't think the whole OAMC thing will work for us. I don't want to make huge quantities of recipes I have tried and also my family gets tired of things easily.

This is my situation exactly. I have often thought of trying once a month cooking, but this has been what has held me back every time. I have found that our family has really about only 6 favorite meals that we enjoy consistently, and I try to do slight variations of them to keep them interesting. Another problem for us is that we often lose power here where we live, and have at times lost hundreds of dollars worth of frozen foods in our freezer. I'd hate to have that happen with a whole month's worth of meals!

Blessings,

Jenny

Leonie,
I'm very fond of the mini-sessions recommended in some books. Also, just simply doubling or tripling a favorite meal is most helpful.

Then there is the approach of putting useful base ingredients in the freezer such as soup broths and marinated meats and pre-cut and diced handy items.

Ditto what everyone has already said here, we just seem to like *fresh* foods so much better. I always try to at least double recipes like spaghetti and lasagne type dishes, and cook up a bunch of chicken breasts to have on hand for salads and soups. The OAMC recipes I tried were IMHO terrible. Just my .02.

WE don't do very well with left overs either, what do you all do with yours??

Leftovers? I carefully wrap them and put them in the refrigerator - some get eaten for lunch and most get thrown away at the end of the week!
