Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Dear Cheryl,

Aside from Moira Farrell's albums, for more general (non religious) Montessori activities for 2 to 6 year olds, I like "Montessori Play and Learn: a parents' guide to purposeful play from two to six" by Lesley Britton. It is a very practical guide, packed with ideas for learning at home.

The only two small caveats are some silly PC stuff in the introduction (ignore) and a photograph of a Mum and child at the beach in which Mum is somewhat scantily clad (cut out if it really offends).

Despite the caveats, it is still my favourite because it is so practical and easy to follow, with very accurate age guidelines, and very oriented to learning at home as opposed to at school.

Jane.

Elizabeth has a Montessori resource list on the 4reallearning website. It is long, but I copied a couple of them below. I don't know anything about the first one except that she gave it her highest recommendation. I picked the other two from her lsit because, though they are not activity books per se, they are loaded with concrete, practical ideas. The "School Years" one is out of print and pricey, both of them are available at our library

Teaching Montessori in the Home; The School Years, both by Elizabeth G. Hainstock

Well I just checked on Amazon for the "School Years" and the used copies weren't all over $20. I THINK that this is because there is also a book with the same title and auther from 1971. I do not know if the newer versions were just re-packagings or if there is a difference. If no difference, the 1971 edition is a good deal.

The links (I have a minute longer than I thought :-):

I just picked up Montessori Play and Learn and Teaching Montessori in the Home-the Preschool Years from the library. I also requested Basic Montessori from the interlibrary loan system. Thanks for your ideas.
