Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 6 year old ds and my dh are going to NYC on a trip just the 2 of them. I am looking for some picture books set in NYC that feature things to see there. So far I have

The Little Red Light House and the Great Gray Bridge and
Macawber

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

The first book that comes to my mind is Robert McCloskey's Make Way for Ducklings. It is a favorite in our house.

I pray that your son and husband have a great time!

The book This is New York looks promising too. We have the author's "This is Rome" book that all my kids love.

A couple more that my children have enjoyed are Esther Averill's Jenny and the Cat Club (not really a picture book, more of a collection of short stories with pictures) and Barbara Cooney's Hattie and the Wild Waves.
Time to pray the rosary. If I think of more, I will let you know.

Does he know anything about the 9-11 attack? Will they go see the memorial? There's a nicely done picture book about it. It makes me cry though.

you can read it online here

There are several good ones focusing on the Statue of Liberty.

Lady Liberty: A Biography
The Story of the Statue of Liberty

Nobel Monument is in New York. This is an interesting biography we recently read about Alfred Nobel. The Man Behind the Peace Prize: Alfred Nobel

Sunshine: a story about the city of New York by Ludwig Bemelmans of Madeline fame is a favorite of mine (my littles are slightly too young for it, so it's probably perfect for yours).

Make Way for Ducklings is set in Boston. (I hope it's okay for me to say that.    )

The couple of books that we've read are
You Can't Take a Balloon into the Metropolitan Museum and
Pale Male: Citizen Hawk of New York City. I can't remember but I think that this book was longer (more words but still lots of pictures).

One of my favorite picture books is
The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Grey Bridge.

It's about a lighthouse who feels displaced by the building of the George Washington Bridge.

In winter, you can see the little Red Lighthouse if you are travelling South on the Henry Hudson Parkway -- if you try hard enough.

The highways change name so often...I think the highway is called West Side HWY after crossing the Henry Hudson Bridge. If you will have a car, a trip to the Medieval Art museum, the Cloisters and/or Mother Cabrini's shrine is in the same area.

The Cloisters does not allow strollers.

We like this one:
Amy Elizabeth Explores Bloomingdales

It's about a little girl visiting NYC- her grandmother wants to take her to Bloomingdales, but something always comes up that keeps them from getting to the store.
