Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do Re Mi: If You Can Read Music, Thank Guido d'Arezzo

by Susan L. Roth

We recently enjoyed this picture book telling the true story of a young man from Arezzo, Italy, who imagined that his system of lines and spaces could be used as a written language of music. It is his system we follow today. Guido lived with Benedictine monks for some time. This book's illustrations are delightful collages made of paper. The author's passion for her subject comes through lovingly.

Bumping this up in search of more musical picture books to read to my dc on our Musical Mondays.

We just read and liked Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin!

we just read The Little Piano Girl about Mary Lou Williams -- lovely book! And she was unknown to us prior to reading this, so we're really glad to find out about her.

Keywords: Mary Lou Williams, jazz, 20th century, music, biography
