Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Just finished prereading Brooklyn Nine by Alan Gratz for my voracious reading, going-on 8yo boy. Probably best for a bit older - but he's so baseball crazy I'll probably let him read it now and then re-read it when we do American History.
A very brief review:
Historical fiction from American Revolution to 2002 - Nine stories about one family, all related to baseball.

Stories can be a bit intense at a few points, and one lewd ‘reference’ (I'm guessing it will go right over the head of my 8yo - it was that 'passing') – but on the whole a wonderful, engaging, historically accurate book– baseball stories from the American Revolution time until 2002, all related to a single family through the generations.

A fantastic idea, well executed and fun to read. I’ll probably have ds read it for fun now, if he wants. Then we will re-read it when we do US history (perhaps reading each chapter in turn when we reach that time period – as the stories do not interrelate other than the family connection).

Anyone else read anything by Mr. Gratz? I just may have to check out his other titles.

ETA: Each chapter ends with out really ending - almost like a cliff-hanger. These could make fun writing projects -- to continue or finish the stories. They also leave you wanting to know more about each character.
