Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi! I haven't posted in a long while and forgive me if this has already been posted. I didn't search for very long to see if this is the case. Anyway, for those of you who enjoyed The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall, I noticed there is a sequel coming out in April. We really liked the first book. Anyway, the title of the new one is The Penderwicks on Gardam Street.

Oh, Carmie -- THANKS so much. We enjoyed Penderwicks so much I hope the sequel is as good ... my kids will be so excited! (of course, it doesn't take a whole lot with them ) and it will come out AFTER Lent, so I'll be able to buy it if the library doesn't have it ....

We liked the sequel ... altho I liked the first one better. In the second, as the girls have aged just a bit, you do get a bit of romance but it's a healthy, natural flow. The premise is the girls trying to avoid their dad dating ... and their is a bit of dishonesty all round but their is confession, repentance and reparation by the end.

I have to say that it took us forever to get through this. I read it to my son and well, this book I think seemed more "girlie" than the first..probably because Jeffrey wasn't a main character in this one. I think it lacked the adventure of the first. Luke and definitely agree that the first was better!

My 9yo daughter loves the Penderwicks and just wrote a fan letter to Jeanne Birdsall yesterday. We went to author's website and read that there are three more books planned in the series. Good news for us! We especially like that the Penderwick children are learning Latin.

My boys are listening to this book on CD. They liked it, but one said the ending is a "rip off" and the other said it's a cliffhanger. They are happy to hear that more books will be coming. My ds 8 says the sequel is better than the first and my ds 10 says he needs to hear the first one again to compare them.
