If you had $30 and you could only read right before going to sleep so anything too complex doesn't work, and you need a book of a size that won't break your wrist while reading in bed nursing the baby...
What would you choose to buy?
I remembered that our Church library has some CS Lewis and I thought I'd get some of those there.
and I've found in another post ""Please Don't Drink the Holy Water" by Susie Lloyd by Sophia Institute Press."
But I thought maybe asking with a bit more critera (something I can read late) would help.
I looked over the books for Lent and I'm just not sure which of those might work for reading late at night.

Any of Katherine Valentine's books are very good. The first is "A Miralce For St. Cecilia's"
Another good one is "A Good Yarn' by Debbie Macomber
I also really enjoy books by Nicholas Sparks like "A Walk To Remember", "Three Weeks With My Brother, etc.
last I like to read books by Richard Paul Evans. Some are "The Sunflower", "Loooking for Noel", "The Christmas Box" etc.

In Conversation With God. $30, can get you *almost* 2 in that series when buying through a place that gives a discount off the retail price. There is a Lent/Easter book.
The series is down to earth, practical, and very inspiring.
I tend to read whenever I can, even if it is late, so maybe my suggestion isn't what you'd want, and I haven't read the Lent thread to know what others are suggesting.

I really am not sure what I want Kelly 
I just know it's hard to hold large books while lying down and that just before I fall asleep is not my best time for very difficult reading. But also if I don't have a book right at that time (nursing my 2 month old to sleep) I'm inclined to get impatient with her because I'm tired and want to go to sleep but have the hardest time falling asleep that first time.

I hope I didn't post wrong - these are just light reading that would be easy to read while nursing. They are not Lent books though.

The new book by Danielle Bean, mom to mom.
It can be pre-ordered on Amazon. I can't wait. I hope it arrives near the beg. of Lent! I need it!

I am having a similar problem, Jodie....I have 22.00 credit at our local bookstore............for over a YEAR!!  My problem: every book I would buy seems to not be widely available  (think Catholic or hsing-related  )
I think Susie Lloyd' s book meets your qualifications very well. You will have fun laughing out loud. I second or third the recommendation.

Have you asked your local bookstore if they can order soemthing?
Oh... what about a cookbook? I can just about always find a cookbook that looks good.
I have money coming from ebates and I thought I'd use that to get me something... that's all money that I "saved" from other purchases.

I had to laugh out loud at your requirements--I have very similar ones for my nursing/reading time. Unfortunately many of the books on my wish list are not in paperback yet.

well I decided... I got..

not sure if I"ll care for that one.. but it at least sounded like something that wouldn't irritate me so much that I couldn't read it
I did put the other selections that have been mentioned onto my wish list..
now just to wait for them to show up

When I had my second little boy, I broke out my Agatha Christie books to read while nursing. I had already read them all, but it had been awhile. I decided to read them in order of publication, and organize my bookshelf as I went. They tided me over for months of late-night nursing sessions. (Then we moved and the books got packed up...) 
The thing I love about Christie, apart from the mysteries themselves, is that they are squeaky clean. Not even too violent! I started reading her when I was 10. Some of her books were better than others, and her later stuff got a little rambling and re-hashed. But she was an old woman by then!

Does anyone else like small books while reading in bed - even when you are not nursing? I read on my side, holding the book with one hand. It is just so much more comfortable for me. I get the small paperbacks for my night reading and my husband hates it! He is such a book snob - he can't stand the look of the small paperbacks! I can't say that I do like the look (and I try to get better copies of the keepers for the bookcase) - but I REALLY like my time in bed reading! Anyone else have this "problem."

I agree with Cay's suggestion of Austen. I also like Lewis very much. I also often find myself pre-reading from my kids' booklists so that I can get ahead and guide discussion. It's excellent for making me feel as though I'm re-living my childhood.
I am completely unable to keep myself from laughing out loud, so humorous books are bad for 2 AM feeding time. Actually, any book is a bad idea while nursing Louis. He wants to see what I'm doing and is constantly grabbing at the pages - maddening. I've taken to reciting rosaries instead.

Thanks ladies..
I enjoyed the funny one.. and the Mother's Rule was excellent.. I skipped all the parts about how she put together her schedule.. but read about the priorities and how she came up with her schedule.. excellent!!
I think the biggest thing for me was that what she used didn't break the day down into itty bitty bits than all had something that had to be done... being able to put in big block of time that just say "school" rather than when to do math and when to do reading etc.. really made the whole schedule/routing more accessible for me.
