Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Thanks Melinda! I am looking forward to this thread. I can't seem to find the time to read through the 2011 booklist that is posted. I thought it would be neat to see what everyones top one or 2 choices would be for the year!

HSMama, our local Christian store just sent an email to those on their email list about your "Kisses from Katie", with a 20% coupon.
Thank you for the recommendation!
Am going to look into it
Theresa, thank you for initially suggesting this book.
I can't wait to read it (now that 3 people have claimed it as their favourite!)

Yeah, yeah...I only read it from your recommendation weeks ago!!!!

Oh and another good nonfiction since we seem to be saying the same...need something different...

Canoeing with the Cree by Sevareid - it is the true autobiographical story of two young men (18ish) who decide to canoe the Cree River up from Minnesota into Canada. One can not imagine this being something that could be done today, 2 young boys, gone for weeks (this was 1920s), no contact with parents, sometimes with anyone else for days, going by real paper maps (haha), navigating small creeks/large rivers/rapids, etc. Took them literally an entire summer.   Kind of cool!

Fiction: The Letzenstein Chronicles (had the series on my shelf for the kids and decided to read them myself...glad I did ) Also, enjoyed The Long Winter for the millionth time. Loved it as a child, still enjoy it as an adult.

Nonfiction: Just started on Bringing Up Boys, but haven't gotten very far, so I can't actually recommend it yet.

I'm liking this discussion, because I need to make a new list to reserve at the library!

Haven't read much fiction lately. So my 2 best non-fictions are:

Alone Together: Why we expect More from Technology and Less from each other

and

Everything I Want To Do Is Illegal: War Stories From the Local Food Front

I'd call them both must-reads. Excellent in so many ways...
