Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I wrote in 'Peek inside the Cradle' the question below and Alice suggested that this may be need its own thread so I have moved it over. I have included the answer already received from Joanne

'My sister15 was visiting and wanted to know about the roles of males and females. She says you never hear about it from the pulpit. True. She asked me questions about whether it was alright according to the Church for say; men to stay at home and look after the children whilst the mother went to work, etc she wanted the Church's view on these sorts of issues. I'm afraid I didn't know if there was a position. I stumbled out about maintaining your femininity and masculinity and how this doesn't necessarily mean that you had to hold traditional roles it was how you did things not what you did it. but as she wanted the Church's position not my jumbled thoughts well what should I have answered? '

For the teaching on what the Church thinks of women, one should read On the Dignity of Women
For the roles of men and women with regard to marriage especially, one should read Familiaris Consortio

Erin, I don't have the answers, but I would look at Pope John Paul II's letters on the roles of women and the family as a starting point ...

Mulieris Dignitatem
Familiaris Consortio
