Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We just read Windeatt's Saint Benedict. I just loved it. I fell in love with this saint. My children were fascinated. Are there any other St. Benedict books out there that touch on his life in more detail for adults?

Peace,

I don't have any recommendations, but we loved that book and St. Benedict as well. It led to a study of illuminating manuscripts, as well as a great devotion to him. Did you know he wrote the prayer for the bees that used to be said when the beeswax candles were blessed? We love that prayer.

Here's a thread for St. Benedict's feast day. Louis de Wohl's book on St. Benedict is great reading. I'll have to think of others.

There's of course, The Holy Twins illustrated by Tomie dePaola. While it's a picture book, it's excellent at presenting a synopsis of his life, and after you read other books about him on the adult level, it's interesting to come back and study the symbols for St. Benedict and his life inserted throughout the book.

A few more thoughts

Life of St. Benedict by St. Gregory the Great or another translation, and also found online here.

Some other online sources.

Here's more in-depth review of some St. Benedict choices mentioned above and the thread.

Michelle,

I'm so excited about the bee prayer. We have 2 beehives and my sons are the beekeeper. We harvested 65 pounds of honey this fall. We were able to give them out for Christmas gifts. Our children all came down with the stomach bug and our two oldest boys took raw honey every hour and never got the flu! We will attach St. Benedict medals to the hives!

Oh! Marianne!

You made me cry. That is so wonderful.

My oldest son would love to learn beekeeping. Maybe I will look into that this year...

Michelle,

Anything that you or your son want to know about beekeeping let us know.
We were so fortunate to have my husband's father who has been doing it for
30 years help us! He checked in on us a lot. He's just a few miles from us.

God Bless,
