Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My husband, who is not Catholic, would like to know more about the Mass, specifically about what is *said* at Mass -- e.g., the Profession of Faith, Glory to God, etc. He grew up with very little religious instruction at all -- his parents were non-practicing Methodists -- and as an adult began attending Quaker (Society of Friends) Meetings. Quakers are sort of at the opposite end of the spectrum as far as worship goes, because they worship in silence, with people speaking in Meeting only as moved by the Spirit. (But they are not what I would consider Charismatic).

He'd like some resources to learn the Mass (history, doctrine, and substance), because it's hard to follow along in the missallette when you are holding a baby who's trying to rip your glasses off .

I'd use caution on this site. While this page doesn't present any harm, it is the Tridentine rite, which might confuse your husband a bit. But the explanations are great.

The rest of the site has some great information, but it's devoid of mention of anything post-Vatican II...except to criticize the new Mass and such.

I just purchased a book I really like called

the How-To Book of the Mass by Michael Dubruiel

The front cover of the book says: Step by step guidelines to the catholic mass

Explains the Liturgy of the Word and Eucharist
Walks you through the Mass
Includes helpful hints and insights from Tradition
Helps you deal with distractions and other obstacles to prayer

Hope this helps.

A friend has just sent me a link to EWTN radio online, regards a talk from (I think) Fr Mike Richards on 'The Mass Explained.' Anyway EWTN is a source to check out.

Oh thanks for the heads up Jenn! I just recently found this site and haven't really had time to explore it all yet.
