Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

In The Catholic Parent Book of Feasts, it refers to today (if I am figuring correctly), as “Middle Cross Day,” the halfway point of Lent. The author suggests we use this day to "review how our Lenten penances are going ... and renew our family commitments to Lenten readings, mortifications and the giving of alms."

I had hoped this year to keep a chart of some kind - a visible reminder of our promises (moreso than our efforts), but I never pulled off that part of the plan .

So, I told the boys we will talk it over at lunch today, and see what we could do to improve our efforts. I also thought some honest discussion on how all this penance has felt would be good, as we remind ourselves why (and for whom) we are doing all of this.
