Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The Encyclical is here in English. In reading it, I thought what a great high school study would it would be, along with Lewis' The Four Loves for philosophy, and Mother Teresa's No Greater Love for practical application.

Oops - I was just about to post this Encyclical and decided to refresh my "Active Topics" one more time. Good thing that I did!

What a great idea for a high school study, MacBeth...

I just did almost the same thing as Jen! -- was about to post it, then realized it was already there.

Also, someone on a e-list sent this link to a
NY Times article.

I had the same reaction to the Times article as Carl Olson did. did the NYTimes reporter read the same encyclical?

Me too......"Roman Catholicism's potential for good rather than imposing firm, potentially divisive rules for orthodoxy."     Ahhhh, so we have the potential for good do we (??); but it's opposed to our rules for othodoxy
