Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

cowboy.

I'm ecstatic that DD (age 6) wants to be Blessed Kateri. I want to find a cowboy saint for two DS (3 & 1).

Any ideas out there?

Yee haw....

Don't think I can help though - there really are not any cowboy saints - since cowboys are a particular element of western US history without much piety associated with them . And any missionary priests of that time and place won't look too much like a cowboy - which I'm sure is what you are going for.

Now the closest to a cowboy saint might be Eusebio Kino - the padre on horseback - as he was known in the southwest. His riding attire might come close .    He is not a canonized saint, but his cause has been opened.

We always hoped to find a saint that dressed like a "prairie girl" -

I was going to say Fr. Kino too!

Mary M. for your prairie girl you could do Sister Blandina Segale. Google her too.

Oh and a big cowboy stretch would be Blessed Miguel Pro. He wasn't in our American West, but he was in Mexico. He dressed in disguises to get to people, a mechanic, a policeman, even pretending to have a girlfriend. He was always dodging the gov't. A bit of a stretch...but he was cowboy at heart maybe???

Blessed Jose Luis Sanchez del Rio looks kind of like a Mexican cowboy. He went around riding a horse and waving the Mexican flag with our Lady of Guadalupe in the middle of the flag instead of the eagle on the cactus. This was in the time of the Cristeros in Mexico. (Of which, btw, my grandfather was a general and got shot while escaping execution!)

Jessica at Shower of Roses has a picture of her son as Blessed Jose.
