Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Not sure where to put this...feel free to move me
I got the St. John Bosco DVD out of the library. I would love to watch it with my kids next week. My kids are 6 and 11. I know ds will love it--he's 11. I am most worried about anything that might be bad for the little one. I don't have the time to preview it. It doesn't seem to have anything violent or objectionable from my reading the case. Looks all good.
But the John Paul II DVD had a little too much violence for my comfort level with my kids, for right now. I did get to preview that one last year.
Thanks in advance for any help.

We watched it last year as part of his feast day celebration and we all really loved it. My 12, 8, and 4 yo watched. It is a little difficult at first to get used to the english over-dubbing (it's filmed in Italian, but you can choose english on the menu options). But, the story is so compelling and it is so well done! I'm trying to think of any violent spots, but I can't remember any that stand out. My son (the 8yo) has a very special devotion to St. Dominic Savio so he loved seeing St. Dominic in the movie. This movie has to be one of our all time favs...but then we St. John Bosco!!! Hope you all enjoy it!

Depending on your sensitivity level, there is one scene with a prostitute. She is certainly not happy with her lot in life, and it is a brief scene, but it is a tie in to later outcomes.
She is also in a scene where one of the "boys" is applying some cooling agent to her bare shoulder/back, as she is sick with cholera. (We have a 15yo boy, so I am a little vigilent about such things)
Aside from that, it is one of my favorite movies!

Hope this helps!

Blessings,
Cassandra

LOVE LOVE LOVE this one!!

Personally, we watch it in Italian...the expression of the voices is so much better...obviously, because it is the real thing...

The English dubbing with most of the Ignatius Press films comes across as awkward...and a bit silly at times...no offense to IP--because their films are truly so beautiful!!

So we opt for the Italian versions (downside is that kiddos have to be able to read...but I wouldn't want my littles watching most of these films anyway...too much mature content in some cases).

This is truly one of our most favorite films...so inspiriing...that for a looooooong while I wanted to name our next son John Bosco.    I still might. If DH just lets me...

Our family liked it also. We watched it last year during lent. The only scene that I did not care for was after St. Dominic Savio died, St John Bosco is upset asking God "why did you take him away from me". I doubt that St John Bosco would say or feel something like this. But I do think otherwise it was a great movie.

We really love this movie and my dd first watched it when she was 7 and truly enjoyed it.

There is a scene that is very troubling early in the movie. A couple of teenage boys attack an old man with a knife - then they are put in prison and one is sentenced to die. I have my dd avert her eyes during this part. The rest is wonderful!
