Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

known as Michaelmas Embertide.

I always make pumpkin bread, although lately, I have been making muffins instead because they are much easier since the kids tear the bread apart. They really love it!

Have a blessed day!

Wasn't that last week? Though I always mess up Liturgical dates, I thought the Ember Days fell on the Wednesday, Friday and Saturday after the feast of the Holy Cross (September 14).

It is very confusing isn't it, Jennifer? Here is an explanation I found last year and posted in that other thread.

The ember days, still observed by Traditional Roman Catholics who use pre-1969 liturgical calendars, began on the Wednesday immediately following those days. This meant, for instance, that if September 14 were a Tuesday, the ember days would occur on September 15, 17, and 18. As a result the ember days in September could fall after either the second or third Sunday in September. This, however, was always the liturgical Third Week of September, since the First Sunday of September was the Sunday closest to September 1st (August 29 to September 4). As a simplification of the liturgical calendar, Pope John XXIII modified this so that the Third Sunday was the third Sunday actually within the calendar month. Thus if September 14 were a Sunday, September 24, 26 and 27 would be ember days, the latest dates possible; with September 14 as a Saturday, however, the ember days would occur on September 18, 20 and 21 - the earliest possible dates.

Ember Saturday is a traditional time for ordinations. In our diocese the ordination for the transitional diaconate for will be on Saturday, Sept. 26. This year two of the seminarians being ordained deacons are friends pf our family and we will be attending. Just like last year, we will be observing the Saturday Ember day in that way - it is such a blessing.

Oops - cross-posting with everybody!!!

Great. I remember lots of chat about the confusion last year too. Lucky me!

I did too, Jen! So, I was all set to observe them last week when my dd said, "Ember week isn't til next week". So, I shifted my plans.

ACK!!! What if September 14 was a Monday like this year??????

I have a calender that follows the Traditional (pre-1962) liturgical days and it lists Ember Wed as today, but I think I got confused because I had them listed in my iCal as last week. sigh. May God bless us for our efforts at least!

All that the 14th being on Monday means is that the 13th is only the 2nd Sunday of month so Michaelmas ember days don't happen til the following week. This past Sunday, Sept. 20 was 3rd actual Sunday of month - therefore ember days start in that week (which is this week ).

It's just giving you the range.. the earliest dates are Sept. 18, 20, 21 and the latest are Sept. 24, 26, 27

Since this year is neither of those it falls in between.. going off the 3rd Sunday of the calender year so.. Sept 23, 25, 26
