Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Happy Advent to all. My head is spinning with last minute preparations. I am going to be a Godmother for the first time coming up on New Years Eve. I am all out of ideas and can't think of anything meaningful and not costly for my new little godchild in the way of a smallish gift.

Any ideas from veteran Godmothers out there?

Kathleen

How about a Crib Medal,if you have a local Catholic bookstore they should have one runs about $8.00 or a pretty white shawl for the baby to be wrapped up in during the cermony. A picture of Mary or a night lamp of Mary. Just some things I have done. And always books are great I like to give one of the books (set of 3) by Robert Hugh Benson published by Neumann press : A child's rule of Life, Saint's Alaphbet, Old Testament Rhymes. I give one for their Baptism and then for the next year on the "Baptism Birthday" I give them another one etc.... Maybe their is another set you would like to start? Also who will his or her patron saint be you could do a Statue of their patron saint. Okay can you tell I have done a few of these

I read about this artist's work on Lisa Hendey's blog. This is a link to her Small Products shop. There are onesies, small t-shirts, etc. which I thought would be great Baptism gifts!

We recently received angel ornaments for the Christmas tree as baptism gifts.

This is a book that I had as a child, recently found again, and highly recommend. 3 in One a Picture of God It is a beautifully simple explanation of the Trinity using the image of an apple. There is more to it than "3 persons in one God." It also discusses the roles of the persons of the Trinity. As I reread the book I was overwhelmed by its depth since the language is so simple.

We gave it as a baptism gift last week, and the next day the friends who we gave it to emailed me to say that they are going to start carrying it at their Catholic online bookstore ourcatholicfaith.com I think they are on vacation so it's not up yet. The link I made goes to Concordia Publishing House, the Lutheran company that publishes the book. There is nothing in it that would confuse a Catholic.
