Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Our diocese is celebrating 50 years this week. Before 1958 there was only 1 Florida diocese, St. Augustine.   Now I am not sure how many there are, but at least 6, I believe. It has changed dramatically.
Just 2 years ago we celebrated our Jubilee in our Diocese of Muenster, Germany. 1,200 years!!!!!
I will be reading up a bit on our history here. From what little I do know, the Irish were very important in establishing the Miami diocese. We still have many irish priests down here. Our parish priests are irish and cuban...accents and all.
Do you know about your diocese? It would be interesting to hear a bit about the different histories....

Our Irish priest celebrated a special Marian Mass on Sunday for the Jubilee, Stephanie. Did you pick up the Archbishop's pastoral letter for the golden jubilee on the Rosary? Lovely art in the booklet by Giotto.
What I know of the Miami Diocese is that we are the oldest church in it. We predate the Diocese by 120 years, I think he said.

Yes, Jennifer. Each of us received the small booklet. The pictures are really beautiful. There is also a special edition of the Florida Catholic for the Holy Rosary and Jubilee. An old photo of your parish was printed in it and I wondered if you possibly belonged to it. A large album celebrating the 50 year history is being sold through the Archdiocese. Every parish has them to sell. Our pastor said $25., while the Archdiocese printed $35. I hope Father did not make a mistake and the difference is postage and handling for those who order it and not buy directly from the parish.
Oh, I almost forgot. At Sunday Mass, we saw a dvd of the Archbishop preaching on the Holy Rosary . It was very well done and what he said was very encouraging. Did you see it too?
