Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I wanted to share a WONDERFUL game that my son just got from a friend, called THE PRIEST GAME!.

This game is very professionally done and very educational…but also FUN. My boys (8,6,3) played it all weekend.

This would be a wonderful gift for Christmas or to help in FHC preparation!

I just want to stand on my roof top and proclaim how great this really is!! Oh, yea, and as a bonus it includes a CD of a “Teaching Mass.” The Priest stops to teach as he is saying the Mass so we can more greatly appreciate it.

Betsy

That looks interesting - can you explain a little more about how you play the game?

The game is played as follows. Each player chooses a board; which contains 8 numbered pictures. Each player spins the spinner and places the corresponding numbered picture on the board. The first one to fill their board wins!

Undoubtedly the game is simple…but it’s this simplicity that allows my 3yo to play. However, the genius comes in how it has captivated my 8yo and 6yo!

Each one of the pictures is a fantastic photograph of some aspect of the Catholic faith. For instance each board had a photo of a priest, some of his vestments, religious articles (Tabernacle, Monstrance, Bible, Rosary, etc.). On the back of each card is the name of the object, and a description/prayer/interesting fact. We have all learned so much!

The story of how this game came to be seems divinely inspired. There were many “coincidences” in people offering their time and talent to make this a very well thought out, high quality game.

I hope this helps, I really can’t say enough good about it. Let me know if you have any more questions.

This looks great- but ouch! Shipping is $12, and the game is $25.
Honest opinion... worth nearly $40?

Melinda,
How to answer you?
The game is really very well put together and professional. The content is excellent. Admittedly the game is simple, but fun.

So....what to say? $37 is pricey. I would put this question in the same category of is it worth extra money to buy local?

It is a good game and worth "it", but everyone will have to determine if $37 is in their budget for it. Also, a small way to reduce the cost would be to buy a case and split them among friends.

Thank you- it does look like a wonderful game, and one that would be great for us to play. I had just come from the post office and mailed a big 15 lb box of kids clothing to my SIL for about $18, so the $12 for a board game came as kind of a shock.

Another question... is this the only game this company has out? I tried clicking on their products link on the web page, and that was all that came up.

This the only game that they currently have. This game is "hot off the press"....it hasn't been around very long.

God willing, they have ideas for an Apostle game in the works. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Betsy

P.S. I agree, the shipping is high.

Inspired by this conversation here at 4Real I got a personal email from the wonderful lady that created The Priest Game. She wanted me to pass along some information about the shipping:

"We are a “mom and pop” outfit doing something where never intended. When it came to shipping, it has been a nightmare! The game weighs nearly 5 pounds. It has cost $6 to ship to those folks who bought in from West Lafayette (which I hated because it is available in 2 stores locally) and it has cost $15 to ship to those in California ($3 over what we collect). I am sure there is a fancy program somewhere that would adjust it according to location but since we are new and learning, we have not crossed that bridge yet. Since we never know where we are shipping, we had to set the price at something that would cover the higher costs of shipping such a heavy game. "

She also noted that....

"...if folks do go in with friends and purchase a case, they end up being $26.10 per game vs. $37. It is cheaper to ship a full case because the size of the box is also a factor. "

So, I hope that at least gives some insight into why the shipping is higher. I really recommend trying to find a few people to go in on buying a case. Or, getting some extras for Christmas presents!

I just wanted to pop in and say "thank you" to Besty for posting about this game.

I ordered it right after I read her recommendation & it arrived just three days later!

It is very well made and has been fun to play.

Also, the dvd of the priest teaching about the mass is very informative. I've been a Catholic for 18 years now & I never knew some of these things. (Specifically, the garments the priest wears and their history & meaning.)

I will be purchasing more to give as gifts!

I've been off the computer for a while so I missed this. Luckily , Betsy lives close to me and she showed me the came yesterday. All I can say is...it's worth the shipping!!! My 19 month old was so interested in the pictures and she didn't damage anything!! They are great quality! My 7yo loved them too.

Thank you for passing this on, Betsy!!!

I just popped over to their website & see that the games are selling for $25/each. Isn't that the price per game if you buy 6?

Thx!

If you buy six, shipping is now free. Individually, you pay shipping.
