God is good!

I have some extra curriculum money and I'd like to spend it on books (of course!!). I'm specifically interested in two kinds:
1) Catholic Reference sort of books. These would include specific titles for Marian aparitions with beautiful illustrations, about Pope Benedict,tThings like that.

2)Other *Beautiful* CAtholic books that no home should be without but isnt' necessarily a reference book.

For both, my daughter is 9. I'd like titles that will appeal to her but something that spans ages and interests. Something the whole family will enjoy and that she can use for years to come.

ANy ideas?

Do you have the Saints for Young Readers books? There are two volumes that take you through the calendar year with a saint for every day. My children enjoy them.

Edited to add: I just re-read your post and realized that these books do not span ages that much. They are described as being aimed at ages 9 to 11.

Well, I always like adding books that can be incorporated into the Liturgical Year. This thread is a good reference point for many resources.

Off the top of my head for some beautiful books, all the ones by Sister Wendy Beckett, like A Child's Book of Prayer in Art and Sister Wendy's Book of Saints.

In this thread Anne recommends Saints: A Year in Faith and Artby Rosa Giorgi. It's a great book, thick, but small. A larger coffee table book I really like is One Hundred Saints.

Cooking with the Saints is another practical but also a coffee table book. You have recipes for saints' days, gorgeous masterpiece artwork depicting the saint and a short biography preceding the recipes.

I'd add the books that Irene mentions above. They are fabulous to have, and will always be used. Saints and Feast Days by the Sisters of Notre Dame of Chardon, Ohio is a fabulous resource that isn't pretty, but very fabulous.

And what I would spend money on if I had some extra is Saints Kit: All the Saints of the Roman Calendar and More by Mary Kathleen Lavich, which isn't a book but a great resource.

Marian ideas, In the Midst of Chaos, Peace by Sister Wendy Beckett, Sister Mary Jean Dorcy, and Dan Paulos. I'm very fond of scissored paper cuttings by Sister Mary Jean Dorcy.Spring Comes to the Hill Country is OOP, but oh so beautiful.

I mentioned a Pope Benedict book in this thread.

I have lots more ideas...I can easily spend your money. You should see my wish list...and what I already have!
