Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

While looking thru the Our Father's House site, when purchasing the Liturgical year calendar (thanks Jenn!!) I saw the Mass kit. I was very tempted to get it but the price stopped me. Has anyone used this for FHC prep? Any feedback?? My dd would probably just love this.

Mary Ann,

I have not used the Mass kit, but my siblings have it for their children and they love it. It's something that I plan on getting soon.

But there have been some discussions on the Atrium and mass kit on the boards. Under Montessori is a thread What Is an Atrium? which mentions another source where you can buy the Mass vessels separately atCatholic Montessori.

Alice had some great instructions on making a monstrance on this thread.

This thread on prayer corners also talks about use of mass kits...and again, Alice has some crafty inexpensive ideas on making your own chalice and paten.

We have the Mass kit and it has been well worth it. We made the altar (dad and boys) to store the whole kit in and the girls made some linens. It is great for altar serving practice as well as Sacrament preparation.

Our girls used to dress up as nuns (like Mother Angelica) and oldest boy would be the priest for all the sisters. We made mini vestments and also have "Franciscan habit." Now the oldest boy is teaching the younger ones what to do at different parts (priest / server).

We also have the Mass Kit and I made linens that fit our "altar" and one for the credence table (where we put everything before "mass". My 6 yos loves "being the priest" and my 3 yos likes to ring the bell and sortof serve as acolyte. Maggie (5) gets to lead the singing so all jobs are covered.

We like the Mass kit -- sometimes it's hard to get to daily Mass (even once a week ), so we practice Mass and I do the readings for the day....seems to work out pretty well!

Blessings all btw, the Kit is worth the money if you've looked at other similar ones (that are priced much higher). Also, its something you would have for a long time!

Thanks, everyone for your imput! I ordered the Mass kit and just got it Wednesday. My dc love it! My 13 year old ds was inspired to make an altar/storage box. It's not as finished as the one in the plans, but very creative and much appreciated anyway!

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet but the vestments that are sold at Our Father's House are absolutely gorgeous. I sew, but I wouldn't even considering attempting these. Not only do my sons use them for "Mass" with our Mass Kit, but they use them for costumes on All Saints' Day.

Our Father's House is a little tricky to find because it ends in .biz.

A thought on other uses for the mass kit. When we bought ours, which my children beg to use all the time, our military chapel also bought one. They used it for children's church and for training Eucharistic Ministers and altar servers. They also bought the vestments in all of the colors available and the additional pieces like the monstrance and the hook to hang the incensor. Our priest was very generous and willing to let us borrow pieces. Maybe you could convince your parish to buy it and let you borrow it.

We only have one set of vestments at home. They are silk and are beautiful. One of my twins will be the priest and the other will be the altar server, or we will pin the stole across his chest so he can be a deacon. They love to play mass, try to do readings homilies etc. I just have to limit it to times when the baby is asleep because she loves the candles.

We have had a couple of small issues. Repeated washing hasn't been good to the metal; it is starting to corrode. Also the tassle came off the cincture the first day. Even with those issues I would buy the kit again in a hearbeat.

I loaned our kit to a neighbor who had a special ed altar server who needed to study at home, so it's been away for a while. Now that the boys are studying for their First Communion, I know we will be doing the lesson plans again. What a great investment.

Rachel
