Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am going to do Pentecost this weekend with my Conf 1 class and my CGS 2 class. I have CGS2 covered, we just do the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

I need some help explaining it to my class of 13 year olds. I will probably do the CGS lesson, using the candles, with them and then start talking about the Fruits.
Can someone explain it to me so I can explain it to them. Any good visuals or activities I can use?    I am planning on making a Fruits of the Holy Spirit Salad with both groups.

This is from my Confirmation class notes (we used Faith and Life so I'm probably quoting verbatim from their 7th grade book in most of this:

As we grow in prayer and in the use of the GIFTS of the HS, we will see certain EFFECTS taking place in our life. (Like juicy fruit is an EFFECT of a tree that is healthy with nutrients and water). A healthy spiritual life gives us the following fruits:

Charity: (love for God and others)
Joy: (happiness in living the Christian life)
Peace: inner calmness in difficulties
Patience: kindly putting up with the faults of others
Kindness: Concern for the needs of others
Goodness: Good example in our actions
Continence: proper balance in our desire for pleasure (I always use chocolate cake as an example - -just one slice)
Mildness: Being gentle - not too loud, not ostentatious in our words and deeds
Fidelity: loyalty to God, parents, family, friends,
Longsuffering: *Extaordinary* patience in enduring suffering
Modesty: respecting ourselves and others in conversation and dress
Chastity: proper attitude toward others and control over our sexual desires

We will produce fruits when we unite ourselves to Christ through prayer and the sacraments.

He is the vine, we are the branches. We will produce fruit abundantly when we are part of him. He brings the sap of life to our branches -- I had the benefit of teaching life science to the same class that I taught religion so they knew about "sap" traveling through the branches from the roots.

BTW - there are 9 listed in Scripture, but these are the traditional 12.

And sorry just dry here! I don't remember doing anything super exciting just drawing a tree with Christ as the main part, the sacraments and prayers as the main limbs, we were the branches with fruit growing off of it...

No cool Fruit of the Holy Spirit salad.

Maryan,

Thank you! We use T3 so we don't have a Teacher Guide with cool ideas.
