Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

It's almost midnight and I can't sleep! I have an idea that is running through my head, but I'm not sure if it's perhaps a genuine call, or just one of those crazy ideas that sometimes comes in the night. So I thought I'd come to you ladies and run the idea past you, get your input and thoughts, and maybe feel like I've done something productive so I can get to sleep!

Some of you may be familiar with my blog A Maiden's Wreath. I began it nearly a year ago with the hope of encouraging Catholic girls to aspire to a holy womanhood. Being a teenager myself, I know how to difficult it is to become a true Catholic woman when the secular world tries to undermine that ideal and promote any other way of life. I've always felt a strong call to try to help young girls overcome the pressure of the world, and follow in the footsteps of the Blessed Virgin. A Maiden's Wreath has been my way of fulfilling that call.

Now I've been struck with the idea that I might do a little more. The idea of a book came to me. The general theme would be pretty much along the same lines of the blog... encouraging girls to strive for holiness, for a true womanhood full of beauty, dignity, and grace. Particularly I was thinking of focusing on those difficult 'single years.' The years which I myself am going through, when you understand that you're to prepare yourself for your vocation, but you struggle from the lack of knowledge of what that vocation is. It's such a difficult time, and you really have to place your trust in God and submit yourself to His Will.

The book would talk about how to take advantage of those single years to prepare yourself for the vocation He has in mind for you, whether the married or religious life, but ultimately eternal life with Him. It would talk about the virtues a girl should strive to acquire (grace, kindness, gentleness, humility, diligence, purity, etc.), about the perfect example Our Lady is for all young woman, about the finer details (such as dress, deportment, hospitality, homemaking, etc.), and such things. Basically, it would encourage a girl to make the most of her girlhood, to use those formative years wisely to grow into a true Catholic womanhood.

Knowing that many of you have daughters, my questions are...

Would you individually have an interest in such a book? And do you think that generally this is something mothers might be interested in?

Do you think such a book would be beneficial to Catholic girls? Do you think there's a need for such a thing?

Any ideas, thoughts, opinions, suggestions?

Can you assure me that I'm not just coming up with wild ideas because I'm terribly groggy from the lateness of the hour?

Your book is definitely needed. I have often wondered why resources such as the one that you mention are not available from Catholic authors. May God bless you and the Blessed Virgin Mary help guide your hand in this endeavor.

I think, if nothing else, it would be an encouragement to other young Catholic women striving as you are, to be encouraged that they are not alone in terms of other human Catholic company. Yes, we would be interested.

Clare,
I have referred my 12 y.o. daughter to your blog and she visits it regularly. She would VERY MUCH use and love a book if ever you wrote one. It could also be a beautiful keepsake gift to give our daughters - we have 4 so far.

A book like this would be a perfect Confirmation gift.

I encourage you to write it!

(There's a Catholic Writers' Conference happening online in May - registration ends in just a few days - perhaps it would help you find out more about marketing your book!)

Clare~
There is a great need for a Catholic book like this. While there are a few from the Protestant side, such as:
Michelle McKinney-Hammond's What To Do Until Love Finds You, there is nothing from a Catholic standpoint, which would be so wonderful! (Note: McKinney-Hammond's books are more for women in their 20's/30's).

Yes,yes,yes,yes,and yes!

And, while you are at it, perhaps your Mom and Dad could write a book on how to raise such a lovely young Lady.

Off to read/bookmark your blog!

Best wishes, and God Bless you!

Thank you so much for your support and encouragement! I'm definitely going to give this a try.

Does anyone have any ideas of what they'd like to see in such a book?

Please keep me in your prayers as I undertake this... St. Francis de Sales, pray for us!
