Greetings!
I was just beginning to think about my children's Easter Baskets. Don't worry, I have not forgotten about Lent! 
Of course a bit of candy will be included and last year all my veggie tales additions and Catholic stickers and new rosaries were very welcome.
What about seeds and garden supplies? Preparations for a Mary garden perhaps? Would that jump start us on a spring adventure or bring too pagan an element into such a Holy Day?
What other Catholic Charlotte Masonish things might be put into an Easter Basket, of course with an emphasis on the 'Catholic'??

I love the idea of gardening supplies! I was thinking of different arts and crafts. Hearthsong catalog has a boatload of stuff to decorate candles. Since Easter is 50 days, I was thinking continuing the egg theme by giving some egg decorating supplies, the book, Kid's Guide to Decorating Ukrainian Eggs, some symbols books or pictures, maybe some new fancy art supplies or a journal to record some drawings for the Liturgical Year?
This won't fit in a basket, but there's a nice Sticker Calendar to Count the 50 days of Easter by Tomie De Paola called The Garden of the Good Shepherd which I got from Amazon last year.
These are all ideas I'm passing on to my sisters, who have older children. This year my son will be 18 months, and I'm trying to get the egg concept for him, without exposing him to real eggs because he's allergic, some Easter picture books, maybe the Fontani Easter characters to play with (since they are durable...we did that for Christmas, he LOVED them!) and some holy cards in plastic for him to carry around.
I'm eager to hear other ideas.

We are going to start a study of Ukrainian Eggs around Eastertime, and I plan on including unpainted wooden eggs in their baskets (that they can paint in Ukrainian styel. The little ones can use markers.) and also store-bought (ebay has a great selection) pre-painted Ukrainian eggs.
I love the garden supplies idea too!

What a great idea for a thread!
We haven't even begun to think about basket stuffers yet (I'm a last minute shopper), but I have a recommendation. Take a look at the adorable faith dolls at TotallyCatholic.com. Believe it or not, I purchased a complete set for my children for Christmas. I wish you could have seen how lovely they were peeping out of each of their six stockings! They would be perfect for Easter baskets and make such a nice gift for all age ranges.
We also love "Tiny Hands, Precious Feet," the CD available on the same web page. My children keep turning it on every day (since Christmas) and love the combination of original and classic melodies. It took me several weeks of listening to the CD constantly to stop welling up with tears whenever I hear the title song (Oh, who am I kidding? I still well up with tears every time I hear it. : ) ). It is so touching and heartfelt.

Thanks Alice!!! I had forgotten about those, and now I just ordered the St. Terese doll for Sarah for her Easter basket, and a bunch of holy cards and metals for my children for their baskets.
Jake loves St. Francis, so I ordered that one for him. Zach, I ordered St. Peter, because he doesn't have a favorite, but every time I think of Zach, I think of St. Peter (don't know why), so in my mind, he's his saint. And of course, St. Terese for Sarah, because she's her favorite.
I ordered Blessed Mother Teresa for me, and St. Martin de Porres for my dh (Martin ), his favorite. I also ordered a few other wonderful things as well.
We usually give some candy, a fun gift (like a small toy), and a religious gift as well. We usually put a chocolate cross in with their candy too.
I just LOVE Easter!!!! The symbolism is incredible!

I did garden baslets a few years back, they were adorable, we start our own easter grass on palm sunday so this theme flowed wonderfully. I included rubber gardening clogs, child size garden tools(joanne fabrics) gardening gloves, garden wind chimes, and flower seed packs, then the small bits of garden theme chocolates. Very cute!! Have fun!

Love the garden theme baskets! I'll save that idea for later! I found some cute little garden tools at Giant one spring, including some colorful kneeler pads for cheap. My little helper would love gardening tools.

I've been meaning to post for days, but figured I'd better soon or it would be too late. One thing I remember about our Easter baskets growing up was the fun it was to find them. My father was very much into riddles and would always write a series of Easter riddles/poems that would lead us to where our baskets were hidden. When I had my own children I wanted to continue the tradition of a hunt to find the baskets. They have always really enjoyed scavenger hunts and this was like one. Since I'm not a good "riddle writer" I instead use scripture verses to lead them in their hunts. They start with a note that has a scripture verse (book/chapter/verse) written on it.
Example: Songs 1:3
Then they have to look up the verse and see what clues it has for where the next message would be. "Your name spoken is a spreading perfume-that is why the maidens love you." (The next clue would be another message hidden on a perfume bottle). That next message/clue would have another verse that they would have to read to proceed. I usually do about 4-5 clues to get to the basket. They really enjoy it. It is practice in using Bible verse skills and ties the festivities to the Bible. The verses are random - not necessarily tied to anything about Easter - just whatever I find that I can link to something in or around our house. (bread, oil, fiery furnace, tent, table, lamp, wine, mat, etc) It has always been a lot of fun. (For littles who can't read we do a picture scavenger hunt instead - each picture leads them to another clue).

Oh, Mary! Thanks for posting this! We always hunted for our Easter baskets...and I did it for my husband the first few years of marriage but we never did scavenger hunts. How fun!
