Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a few ideas of my own but was looking for some new ideas and some freshness from what we have done in the past for this feast of Our Lady's.

Thanks
Chemai

We are going to do the obvious ... make crowns for our statues. What have you done in the past for this feast day, Chemai?

Blessings,
Ginny

We chose the name "Queen of Heaven Academy" for our homeschool so I am looking for ideas too! We plan to have some little Catholic friends over for lunch and cupcakes with blue sprinkles, display the Queen of Heaven print from the rosary set, give out holy cards, color a coloring page and make a wreath of fresh flowers for our outdoor statue. Oh, we mustn't for get to sing "Hail Holy Queen"! Anything I'm forgetting?

We are going to go with the whole twelve stars thing, as in Mary's crown of twelve stars. We are going to use sticker stars to create crowns on Holy Cards, hang twelve green stars across the mantle with a prayer intention on each, a welcome daddy home from his mission trip with a luncheon that includes salad with star fruit, star shaped grilled cheese sandwiches, and mini lemon tarts (because they sort of look like little crowns). That evening we'll say the rosary for our prayer intentions.

Thank you Ladies,

You all have some very great ideas here which are all very sweet and loving. Our Lady will really enjoy everyone's celebrations. I like your idea Colleen of the 12 stars across the mantle with a prayer intention on each. I would like to stick them behind Our Lady’s statue in our oratory, we will try doing that.

In the past we have done a notebook on The Queenship of Our Lady which each child celebrating as many different titles of our Lady that they could find or that they knew of. We also have made crowns for each of our statues of Our Lady. One in Our Schoolroom - The Immaculate Heart of Mary, and one in our family oratory which is The Immaculate Conception.

We have also had a blue theme where we all wore blue, had a special dinner/feast and sang hymns to Our Lady after our family rosary with Dad leading the singing.

Also we have used our Seton Art 1 for craft. Even though it is more for younger children it is amazing what the older children have made from the patterns. They have used cardboard, glitter, beads, cotton wool, etc - really giving life to there pictures.

I am going out now to get some supplies of gold cardboard and cellophane paper and glittery materials and we may do a collage of Our Lady for tomorrow that everyone can add something to, or make holy cards for the family and parish as gifts (Good idea Tracy, we have done little things like this before for other feast days as well). Not sure.

I think I might do a Gold theme, Gold food - Pumpkin Soup, Cake with gold ribbon, sprinkles, and fish in foil which isn't gold but shiny. I will put my thinking cap on and add more when I come home.

God Bless
Chemai

Were you all confused as to why I was hanging green stars on my mantle? I am too! I meant gold, duh!

As I was thinking through the week in the wee hours this morning, I had a little inspiration. Those stars we're going to hang on the mantle....I am going to sit the kids in the COGS area today and lead them through a little meditation atincludes an explanation of Mary's Queenship and her crown of twelve stars. I will let them look at Holy Cards with that image on it as we reflect. Then I am going to lead them through a little meditation--what if you were an angel and God gave you the job of making one of the stars for Mary's crown.   As we reflect, I'll let them make a sketch of their star and then we'll create a list of supplies. This evening I'll shop for what they need and tomorrow we'll return to the atrium to sit amd make our stars which we'll hang behind our statue of Our Lady of Fatima. I'm so happy with the reflective feel of this activity, I had to share.

We're having a rough time lately, but one thing I plan to do is make a bun crown ring - a sort of ring of fruited bread rolls, iced with glace icing and then James will get to decorate it with "jewels" from the cake decorating supplies - glace cherries, silver balls etc. Then we'll have a simple tea party for our supper. Which will be an easy meal for me to make!

I love the ideas. Thanks for sharing.

More ideas---Copywork is the verse from Revelation about the woman clothed with the sun, standing on the moon, and crowned with stars...tea time treats: Sunny Delight, star shaped cheese sandwiches, and danish wedding cookies (which are shaped like crescent moons)

Copy work and noon prayer option

Regina Caeli
Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia. / For He whom you did merit to bear, alleluia.

Has risen, as he said, alleluia. / Pray for us to God, alleluia.

Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia. / For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.

Let us pray. O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Thy Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant we beseech Thee, that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

We discussed and decorated pictures of Our Lady being crowned. We also did cooking math: choc cookie crust + (1/2 blueberry jello + 1/3 8oz cool whip) + (1/2 blueberry jello + fresh (YUM!) blueberries) + 2/3 cool whip + 12 oreo cookies on edge around the rim for her crown!

(I figured the cookie crust is Mary crushing the devil while the Oreo "stars" are her general triumph over evil -- ok it's a stretch but the kids are going to love dessert tonight! )

ETA; we'll also pray the Litany of Loreto after dinner in front of our Mary Statue!

I LOVE the food ideas, ladies! Thanks so much for sharing them...I have to add them to our feast day menu for next year!!

Since my oldest ds is on the farm with dh for the day, and he's the one who's been begging all summer for a repeat of last year's celebration, we're going to have a late afternoon tea (Alice you've SO inspired me with your teas! )

Here's my ideas (and if you've seen them before, I apologize...I only like to think I'm original!

We're going to dress as Kings (the boys) and Queens (dd and I) ...my kids love doing anything where dress-up is involved! I'll send the boys outside to gather rose petals to decorate our table, we'll light a candle next to an image of the crowning of Mary and here's what I've plannned for us to eat:

Crown Cake (there's a crown-shaped pan for sale at orientaltrading.com!)

The Moon Beneath Her Feet
(Ritz Crackers topped with a circle of Swiss cheese -to look like the moon- and foot-shapes cut out of pepperoni placed on top)

Sun and Star Punch
(a yellow fruit punch with sliced and frozen starfruit instead of ice cubes)

and…

Celestial Seasonings “Tension Tamer” Tea
(There’s a wonderful picture on the box of a royal lady with a crown upon her head no less!! , and she's calmly sitting atop a giant dragon!! ) who cares what it tastes like..it just doesn't get any easier than this!!

There was a great thread with more variations on Crown Cakes.

I haven't decided what to do for this feast, yet.
