Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I hope this is not a really silly question, but I couldn't answer my 4.5yo daughter's question today - "Mommy, what if by the time I'm older and ready to take Eucharist, but I'm allergic to bread - can I still take the host?" Now, she's not allergic to wheat, but out of the blue, she asked this question after mass on the car ride home, and all I could say was "Um... I don't know, but maybe they will make special bread just for those allergic people?" Then, tonight, I did a brief research on the web and the article in newadvent.org mentioned that for valid consecration the hosts must be made with wheatan flour. So, what do people do if they are allergic to wheat?

Thanks a lot. Sorry again if this was a silly question and if this is the wrong forum.

If a person absolutely cannot receive any wheat, they can just receive the Cup.

Whether a person receives the Host or the Cup, or both, she still receives the fullness of the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Our Lord and Savior.

It isn't a silly question and fits right in this forum. The general topic has been discussed before.
Celiacs receiving...

Thanks for the tip about receiving the cup and the link to the previous post. It was very helpful. So it turns out my answer wasn't too far off
