Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Something strange is happening in our house and I *have* to think it has something to do with musical instruments. We have four children taking piano, one in guitar (electric, and he's finally happy with the music he is learning), one in bass (also electric, though this is my classical boy who wants as his second instrument cello), and one in drum lessons. My daughter, the only one not doubling on lessons, wants to take harp. Talk about cacophony! Whew! I have to admit that sometimes I wish my husband would've consulted me before he bought the drums.

But what's happening (and this is truly wierd) is that our kids are getting more cooperative, more responsible, more loving toward one another ... get my drift? Does this have anything to do with the discipline of music? Or might it only be the fact that we spend an hour + in the mornings on prayer, catechism, and devotions?

It also might have to do with the fact that my oldest is, well, older than he was last year. He's maturing by leaps and bounds. He still steps backward in his progress sometimes, but they don't seem such enormous, set-back types of steps.

So I guess what I'm asking is: Does music have an effect on maturity, unity, responsibility?
