Hi all my dd6 would like to make a lapbook about princess. My thought is to do several mini books for a "princess's around the world" lapbook. Can anyone recommend some princess picture books? I am thinking about some from Europe, the Middle East (Persia?), Africa, Asia, and the Americas... hmmmm. We could then round it out with "The Princess and the Kiss" a la Catholic Mosaic

This unit would be a perfect lead into Mary's Assumption and the feast of her Queenship...

There are many Cinderella stories from around the world. A search on yahoo gives many sites. (children's books Cinderella stories).

I would go directly to the Andrew Lang Fairy books, beginning with the Blue Fairy Book (published by Dover). You should also go to the Fairy Tales section of your library for picture books (usually separate from the regular picture books section). My library has a wonderful collection of beautifully illustrated fairy tales.

Here are some particularly good editions:

Snow White illustrated by Charles Santore
The Twelve Dancing Princesses by Marianna Mayer
Cinderella by K.Y. Craft
Rumpelstiltskin by Paul O. Zelinsky
Rapunzel by Paul O. Zelinsky

You might want to read about some saints who were princesses. Sixty Saints for Girls is a good place to start. Take a look at the lives of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, St. Alice, St. Barbara, and others. (I believe Kateri Tekakwitha was the daughter of a chief, so hers might be another story to read.)

If you all have any ideas of what you would put into this lapbook I would LOVE

to hear them!!

I think our end project will be making some fairy princess dolls, like the tiny magic cabin ones Alice's girls had over at Cottage Garden. And, a tea for the feast of Mary's Queenship.

Thank you, Alison! I have a six year old girl too, and this thread is quite interesting to us!

I cannot believe I forgot to recommend the book Princesses of the Kingdom by Leo Madigan. It is a loving and pious recitation of the stories of Nellie Organ and Jacinta Marto, two very small girls who did great things for God. The text may be somewhat advanced in parts for a six year old, but there are lovely pictures, and I am sure she will be inspired. Do not miss this one!

Hey Mary Kay,
I was browsing my library offering of Cinderella last night, and Wow! I will use Cinderella as our geography part of the unit. It will be fun to use some comparison charts for the cinderella stories.

For religion I will use the saints suggested and have dd define what a REAL princess is- a daughter of The King. We are all princesses because Christ is our King, and Mary our Queen mum!
How much fun she will have dwelling on this truth

I will have her draw a picture of a beautiful princess and then scan it and add her face to the drawing.

There will be a small section of copywork.
She can narrate her own princess story to me, then illiustrate it.
We will make a castle cake for our princess tea.

These are some of my ideas so far... more suggestions are greatly welcome

At the end of "King of the Golden City" the girl, Delcta or Floss, becomes a princess in Heaven.

I love that story. Six may be to young though, depending on the six year old.

Chiming in late, but you might want to check out "To Be a Princess: The Fascinating Lives of Real Princesses" by Hugh Brewster. I can't give an actual review, as we just picked it up from on hold at the library, but it presents the lives of 12 real princesses, in historical context.

We're not doing a unit study, but with 2 girls ages 6 & 8, the princess mania goes into overload sometimes. I want them to see that "princess" doesn't only mean glittery crowns and Prince Charming. We will do it as a read aloud so I can edit on the fly, but I would like to add just a bit of reality to the princess dreams . . .

Thanks for the suggestions Katilac,and Maria! We are still waiting to work on our projects- mommy has had terrible LOW energy because of pregnancy

We are reading lots and will do some crafts some day

I was planning on putting geography in to her study. We read a great book by Tommie de Paola about a Mexican Cinderella
