Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I posted this on an unschooling email list but also thought I'd share here.

Right now, Anthony (10) is really into the Middle Ages. I am not sure how that started - I think it was because of a documentary we saw on the National Geographic channel. Or maybe it was fuelled by his rpgs. Anyway, we went on a search for all the books we have on the Middle Ages. I am looking for a good read aloud that everyone will like.

So, now Thomas (13) wants to make a shield - so we found this site with info on Lego shields. Lego is suddenly back in favour here! Here is the site -
triangular shields

The other boys are also getting interested because of the Middle Ages talk .We read about St Bede as it was his feast day recently - and found he is called an historian of the eary Middle Ages. Serendipity and connections!

Don't you love it when one thing leads to another? :-)

What is the current passion at your house?

We just finished a middle ages binge ourselves. We read King Arthur and Robin Hood (and watched the movie versions) and did alot of fun stuff, including making shields from this website: How to make an Authentic coat of arms
The site has some interesting info on blazonry, or describing a shield in the authentic vocabulary (ie: "vert, a lion rampant or" means a green shield with a gold lion standing on hind legs). Your ds may enjoy trying his hand at describing the lego shields this way!
Now we are on to Spiderwick and fairies as the current passion.

This is very cool - I know a young Lego fan who will think this is a great find. I'm sure he'll choose the lion shield - still very into Narnia and Peter.

Cool, Leonie...

Right now, Isabella is big into comic books and the Magic Tree House Books. She also wants me to buy Rise of Rome - CD Rom...I'm still waiting for my voice work check . She is saving her dinero for some Star Wars thing at Borders...she has to earn $6.00!!!!

Juliana and Sophia are into Biscuit. Fairies and Polly Pocket, too...they have also saved up to buy Felicity and Elizabeth American Girl dolls! Isn't that exciting! I am so proud of them!!!!

And Joe Max just loves to play with his knights or cars or run around in his underwear and cape in the backyard...shhhhhh don't tell him I told you but it's the sweetest thing.... .

Leonie, I put a post on my blog the other day with various St.Bede ideas you might like to check out.

Current passions here are choreography and making movies with a webcam. Wish my children would occasionally settle on something quiet that you read, instead of something noisy that you do.
