Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just wanted to share something really exciting that is happening on our farm... A giant medieval drama group is preparing for a "war" from the Middle Ages that will be held/staged in Pennsylvania soon and they are practicing for their big event here on our Virginia farm! The very large group had been looking for a place to rent where they could rehearse (in full dress and with their gear...horses, weapons, etc.) and somehow found our farm. They will be spending the week camping/roaming through our woods and we are invited to a personal showing (it is otherwise closed to the public) this Saturday night. I wish the children were older and would retain some of it (I think it will be WAY over their heads, but the drama will be neat). I'll post the group's name and performance location in Pennsylvania, if anyone is interested.

We are so excited! ~Kristine

Kristine, that is the coolest thing I ever heard. We are learning about the Middle Ages right now, so I would love the name of this group and the dates and locations in Pennsylvania.

Be sure to take lots of pictures!

Dear Alice,
I met the people involved in the group this weekend (we were invited to "feast" with them...our first taste of medieval food!) and it was a wonderful experience. The group rarely lets anyone in street clothes interact with them since they are not "open to the public" but as a gesture of thanks they allowed us to dine with them. Unfortunately, I found out that this event (a battle) they are participating in is also not open to the public, but there is a website (sca.org) that tells all about the international group and the events and participants and it might be worth checking out (I'm going to look the group up once I get a chance). I was told that if someone wanted to "try this out" they could use "loaner garb" (versus street clothes) and spend a day getting to know the local participants before they join. I don't think I'll join, but it would be neat to learn more about history this way!

Amazing--and what an interesting adventure for you and your family!

Thanks for the information. I will check out the website right now. It's too bad it isn't open to the public. I attended a medieval feast in Bunratty Castle in Ireland years ago, and it is an experience I will never forget.
