Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Sorry about the unfinished heading, couldn't think how to shorten it! (like usual)

I had heard about Gladys Hunt's original book, "Honey for a Child's Heart" and that it was highly recommended. Recently I had an opportunity to buy secondhand, "Honey for a Teen's Heart" and so I bought it.

I will quote what is said about the Harry Potter series:
"You may become convinced, as we are, that not only are the books excellent fantasy, but that God can use them for redemptive conversations within your family and with the larger culture."

I feel that it IS a recommendation for books that I do not like at all - I think personally it is hard to go past Fr Gabrielle Amorth's (Chief Exorcist of Rome)
comments, where he sees them as very dangerous.

So I don't know what to do with this book, is it that only her first book is highly recommended or is this one too? I feel a bit nervous following her suggestions on other unknown books, because of her views here.

Does anyone have suggestions? Maybe I should cull it from my library - for anyone who is more familiar with her many recommendations or this book and still share my concerns on HP, do you have any helpful advise?

Just adding to my post....I would love to buy a book, set out like these Honey for the Heart books that had all the listed recommendations for Catholic picture books(younger years), fiction/novels up to the teenage years, with a write up on each one, that would be fantastic.

Thanks

Annie

I love Honey for a Child's Heart and have no problem with any of the recommendations. Because of that I then bought her other two books and quite frankly was disappointed. Many of the books in the Teen book I would not be happy with my teen reading. I was also disappointed in Honey for a Women's Heart, it just didn't 'speak' to me. No warm fuzzies there.

I bought Honey for a Child's Heart and love it - so I followed suit and bought the teen book for my dd - so far I have been pretty disappointed. There are books she has wanted to read that I have said no to and she told me they were recommended in Honey for a Teen's Heart. (Sorry but I cannot remember which titles off the top of my head.) Anyhow, I have been disappointed by this book and would love to know where to find other books for my older girls to read.
