Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm sure most of you know about this one already, but for those that don't, this is my new favorite blog! I gather that she homeschooled her three now-grown children relaxed-Charlotte-Mason style. There is so much wisdom there, I find I'm printing pages and pages and pasting them into my journal. Just wanted to share!

(Leonie, you are the newest post's inspiration!)

some of us recognize this wonderful mentor. She's Stephanie Lillegard, our dear friend from the CCM yahoolist days. I'm so glad she's sharing in that capacity now.

Oh, I love the way Stephanie writes and the way she is willing to be a mentor for the newer homeschoolers! She is a great role model

Have you read Today's Post?

An excerpt:
The childhoods of my children were steeped in the rhythms, syntax, and vocabulary of these early 20th century Brits. It was a great era for adventure and expansion and imagination, and there was an expectation that children could appreciate such profound themes as Noble Obedience, and Self-sacrifice, and Loyalty, and Honour. Somehow, all these books feel larger inside than they seem outside. Every one of them is one of Lucy Pevensie's wardrobes, or Mistress Mary's gardens behind a curtain of ivy, and if you would go in, you must be humble enough to admit that the world is surprising.

I have another theory. I think that when we grow up on books that are larger inside than they seemed from the outside, we turn into people who are large inside too.

What are the books that she is speaking of?

C. S. Lewis (Chronicles of Narnia)
J. R. R. Tolkein (The Hobbit)
Charlotte Mason
Kenneth Grahame (Wind in the Willows)
A. A. Milne (Winnie the Pooh)
Frances Hodgson Burnett (The Secret Garden)
J. M. Barrie (Peter Pan)
Beatrix Potter (The Tale of Peter Rabbit)

Can you think of any additional ones to add to her list?

That is a lovely thought.

And I am reminded that our Tasha Tudor copy of "The Secret Garden" is still lost. I can't seem to find it and have a craving to reread it all summer long...especially when I read posts like these that remind me of it.

Could you all say a prayer to St. Anthony? Thanks!

Can't wait to see this list extended.
