Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Where are the tadpoles??!!

Anybody know? Is it still to cool for the frogs to lay eggs? I just ordered a bunch of frog books but they haven't arrived yet and I've been so busy planning our geography lapbook and Beatrix Potter unit for April that I haven't had time to research frogs online...

We've been walking down to our pond/creek and looking for frogs and frog eggs for weeks now. We can hear them but I don't SEE anything and I'm starting to get antsy...our Frog and Toad unit just won't be the same without the tadpoles!

I just knew someone here would be able to tell me that I hadn't missed them for the 2nd year now! (Macbeth? )

Oh, and my mother suggested pulling out the kiddie pool in our backyard, laying a black tarp inside and filling it with just a bit of water. She thought that might encourage our backyard frogs to use the pool for their eggs...but what about food? Won't there need to be some grass and leaves in there, not for food but camouflage?

As you can see, I know nothing about this and am hiding my head in shame!

I'm off to read!

I believe most frogs mate and lay eggs on March-April. I know that to get wild eggs/small tadpoles from a local biological supply company we have to wait until April if that helps.

We don't see them here until June. And in some places, there are few tadpoles because of predators (sunfish, herons, hellgrammites ).

Keep looking, especially in vernal ponds in May and June.
