Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone read the book series by Katherine Valentine?

I was looking at a Catholic Digest in adoration the other day and saw a flyer about her books.

"Katherine Valentine's Dorestville series is a New England Catholic sibling to the hugely popular Mitford novels by Jan Karon."

I think it's just what the doctor ordered for this beautiful season of Advent and waiting...and to be continued on through the chilly days of winter when we're tucked inside our homes and feeling melancholy.

Cay -- these do look like fun. My mom (who lives with us now) is a great fan of Mitford -- I'm hoping Katherine Valentine's will be a good series for her and me to read!

Blessings.

Thanks from a New Englander, Cay. Goodness, this is what I have been looking for this year. I just checked a bunch of people on my Christmas list who might like these...

I just checked my library and they have two books on hand and a third one at a library further away but in the same parish so I can have it sent to my local library.

I've read the first two. I thought the first was really funny, but it just isn't Mitford. I think I could have appreciated the series for it's own beauty if that comparison hadn't been made. I'm curious what you all will think.

I have read them all plus her new mystery - The haunted Rectory - the first in her new series. She is great.

Just checked the first one out from the library! (Our library only has the first one) But the lady who orders books at our library goes to our church and came over to me after Mass today and commented that she had not gotten any requests lately from me and missed seeing the books we were requesting....so I just had to tell her about this series and that I would DEFINITELY be in this week to request all the rest including the new mystery one!!

I have only read the first couple of chapters but it is SO NICE to read a Catholic novel....I did like the Mitford ones also but am enjoying this one as well so far! Thanks so much for the recommendation!! I think I will buy these for my sisters for Christmas! Which is great because I did not have any ideas yet for them!

I am also very excited about these books! I *almost* bought one at the bookstore today (it looked so good) but they didnt have the first in the series, and I want to start there. And now I'm glad I waited because my library has them all! Just put in my request for A Miracle for St. Cecilia's!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading these (from the library) last year. I had kinda forgotten about them - now I have to see if they have the latest!
