Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this prayer request.

On Tuesday, at my first prenatal visit, I learned that my baby has died. There were no warning signs. The midwife simply wanted to check my dates via sonogram because I was measuring larger than expected. During the sonogram she told me that she did not see a heartbeat. She sent me to the Maternal/Fetal Center for a more sophisticated sonogram to be sure of her findings. It was confirmed. My baby had died, possibly a week earlier.

I was completely stunned. I became angry for allowing myself to be open to the possibility of losing another child. The thoughts of going through this type of grief all over again was too much for me.

I shared what had happened with several friends and I know they immediately began to pray for me. I told them that I was unable to pray. They seemed to know that, and prayed in my place. For two days I have struggled with feelings that I am ashamed to admit. Elizabeth and Bridget both asked me if they could post a prayer request for me….but, I would have felt like a hypocrit had they done it. I felt like all the prayers that had been offered for me and my new little one, just a week ago, were never heard…all those people praying and yet my baby still died.

Now…I know they were heard. Now…I know that the Lord is holding me in his very hands. Just about an hour ago, something has lifted from my hardened heart. I feel a great peace that only God can give. And…I know it is from the prayers of my family and friends.

The days ahead will be difficult I am sure. I still have no signs of losing the baby. I guess I’ll just have to wait on God’s timing. I am little frightened by miscarriage. I’ve never had one, but do have a history of hemorrhaging and am a little concerned about how this will all happen.

Please pray that I am able to miscarry without needing surgery. And please pray for my family and me as we go through this together.

My friend, Amy, suggested to me that I go to Mass yesterday. I told her that I couldn't. My thoughts had made me too unworthy. She said to me, ”Don’t let the Evil One have a field day with this, Donna.”    She is right. I will try my best to trust Him alone.

Dear Donna,
I am so glad to see your request here. Know that we love you and that we are praying even when you don't have the heart to do so yourself. We grieve with you. Take good care; be gentle with yourself. And know that you are loved.

Donna, I am so very sorry for your loss. I understand completely your feelings of hurt and vulnerability, and your feeling of anger of being open to hurt again. You are in my prayers....there are no other words to offer.

I'm so, so sorry.

Dear Donna,

We will keep you in our prayers.

I will also pray to your little saint to offer prayers, as well.

One day, you will have the privelege of beholding this precious child in Heaven one day - and he and HE will thank you for your generous openness.

God Bless you, sweet lady.

I am so sorry, Donna. Keep in mind that our suffering is one of the most powerful prayers we can offer, even when we don't have the desire or the words. You are in my prayers.
