Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are going to Paris for the weekend some time soon, hooray! Does anyone have any suggestions for good picture books about France or, especially, Paris? I've only come up with Madeline so far (and can't bear the cringe-making rhymes!). My children are 6, 4 and 2.

Have you seen this site Travel for Kids?

They have a nice page about France and one in particular on Paris, with book suggestions, too.

Here are some we've found that the kids love:

Linnea in Monet's Garden

The Giraffe that Walked to Paris

I KNOW there are others, but I can't seem to find them tonight....I'll email again with more.

Elizabeth, I recently discovered a lovely picture book called This is Paris by Miroslav Sasek. It is a reprint of a book from 1959. It begins, "So her we are," and proceeds to give you a tour of Paris, her monuments, quartiers, people and "thousands of cats" along with a fair amount of history. It is really charming and gives you a brilliant glimpse of Paris. I love the illustrations.   Some of the topics include: Notre-Dame, the Bird Market, the Conciergerie, le metro, Saint-Chappelle, Pont-Neuf, la Seine, St. Germain-des-Pres, bistros, le Pantheon, les Halles, Jardin du Luxembourg l"opera, la Madeleine, Place Vendome, le Louvre and much more. It is a perfect introduction to the sights of Paris.

Thanks to all for the suggestions: great websites, great book lists. One (!) of the books is in my local library, and I'll get busy and order some of the rest. Thanks again.

Doris,

This isn't a book, but on the american girl site, they have a page for exploring exploring Paris -- might be fun for y'all to look at.
